#3144438 TamaTalk's logo: Which do you like better?

Posted by TamaMum on 11 February 2012 - 07:38 AM

oh nononononono... dont change it..
tbh, ill probably quit by then.
youve changed a bit too much for my liking.

That's a real shame.  It sounds like you are saying you would quit TamaTalk because the design of the logo changed and because we upgraded the site's software (the original software we ran was ancient and VERY vulnerable to being hacked because it wasn't being updated for security).  O-o

I know it can be hard to adjust to changes especially when you liked the site exactly the way it was before, but try to think about all the members you've met and got to know, the different info you find useful here - not just about tamas - and the help / friendship you yourself bring to TamaTalk when you visit.  Don't forget that others will probably miss you if you quit!  Seems such a shame to threaten to quit over a logo design...

#3169239 Tamagotchi L.I.F.E, New from Bandai

Posted by graficks on 14 June 2012 - 11:11 AM

I could say I'm disappointed with the launch of the new Tamagotchi LIFE brand, or I could rag on about how I think Bandai is making a colossal mistake - but I won't.

I won't because I am not in the least surprised that Bandai took this approach with their North American branch of Tamagotchi. After poor sales, lack of interest and advancing technology, it was time for a complete product refresh. (whether we like it or not) I'm not trying to justify their new approach, but given the tech-hungry consumer industry here in North America, I believe a colour screen, feature rich Tamagotchi priced at $60-80 would have done poorly regardless. The toy industry is so radically different here than it is in Japan. In fact, more folks are interested in playing $0.99 cent apps rather than investing larger amounts of $$$ in a quality toy that provides unique gameplay. The toy industry is changing rapidly and I think Bandai found themselves at a crossroads with this brand. "Are North Americans going to eat up another release of a Tamagotchi (let's be honest, the brand was becoming exhausted after the Music Star and TamaGo) or should we approach this differently?"

I don't know who or how Bandai gathered their market research to initiate a re-brand of Tamagotchi in this direction, but it makes sense to me. No, I'm not happy with the direction they're taking, but from a business licensing perspective they need to reinvent themselves to keep current. 20-29 year old females are BIG MONEY spenders. Can they tap in on that audience? I'm not sure. Most companies just "follow the money". Business will be business. (not that I agree with this model or anything)

With all of this speculation aside, I still love Tamagotchi. I love my vintages, my Connection series and my ID L's. I love every one of these little plastic eggs just the same (OK, maybe my white ID L just a little more than the others). And while I'm disappointed that I won't see a new North American release any time soon, I'm going to cherish what I have - because I'm not going to waste my precious time hating on Bandai for making to what I perceive as a mistake. They can go ahead and make girly clothing and bath soap. I'm still going to play and collect my Tamagotchis with the same fuzzy-feeling-excitement I had before this release was made public.

Whatever comes next for the Tamagotchi brand may or may not be great. But what we've got here and now are amazing communities full of life, support and great friends. We don't need a corporation to keep our spirits alive - we do it ourselves!

Guys just seriously trust me on this, if super important, you have to be more supportive! If we dont, who knows what will happen!

I hate to be rude, but I don't think you should be forcing your own opinions with the rest of the people who thinks otherwise.

As part of the non-L.i.f.e. crowd, I will tell you that we support Bandai in a way that we criticize its actions which we think does not cater to us fans. If we didn't support Bandai in the first place, why should we care? Why were we in this forum? What are we doing here, right? If we never really cared, we'll just let them do all the things they want, be it good or crappy and not waste time discussing things about it. But supporting does not only mean giving positive feedback, but giving negative feedback as well. This kind of information gives Bandai crucial information about what their customers REALLY want.

Yes, we get your point in supporting Bandai - and no one is forcing to you withdraw it. We respect and value your response. You should behave likewise. We are all entitled to our own opinions.

If Bandai America really does do something that interests us in the near future, I don't see any reason why we should not support it. After all, we're all here for that very reason.

I run down the hall, but even as I turn into the kitchen this thing is waiting for me. Nothing makes any sense anymore, it's not physically possible for any living creature to be able to do this. Why am I even bothering to try and run? The doors are sealed anyway.

There's a point where enough is just enough. I realise I don't even care anymore. This thing seems to exist only to torment me, and over these last few days it's done a bloody good job of that. But enough is enough, if this thing thinks I'm going to go quitely, it's dead wrong. I raise my pistol once more and fire at that dark form again. This time, I don't stop, not until I've  fired every bullet I have. Eight shots, nothing that size could survive this. But I know that it won't have done anything. I was wrong, it did do something, it made it worse. A lord and obnoxious voice fills my head. "THAT WAS A MISTAKE, ALIX". I scream as it lunges foward, showing its true face. I open my mouth in horror and disgust as I stare at it. It smiles. Suddenly, everything is :). I scream, but the :) doesn't stop. :) is everywhere. I try to claw my own eyes out, but I now realise nothing can possibly stop :). My own body begins to tear itself apart. My physical form dissolves under the gaze of :) .

My soul is torn from my body, and as it dies I enter a room. Completely nondescript. At first I think this is hell, but I quickly realise that this is something even worse, trapped deep within us all. I am alone, and as I look around I can only see one thing. :) :) :) :)

If you couldn't guess this is meant as a parody of some creepypastas. I know there are a few people who will jump on the "omg hes trollllllllllin" train but I'm aware of what trolling is and this isn't it sory buddy. It's meant to be amusing by being disturbingly bad, kbro? :)

#3173800 Hey Tamatalk. We need to discuss something.

Posted by mew0099 on 05 July 2012 - 08:08 PM

alright. i have no idea whether or not this is the appropriate forum area to say this, but really, it needs to be said. (if any admins want to move this somewhere else please feel free to! and if this is a bit silly yes feel free to delete or lock it UuU!!)

so basically we've all kind of seen the people here -

there are the

- tama fans ( you guys who stay within the tama forum areas, log about your tamas, take pictures, status update with "my mametchi just had a baby!" or something similar )
- hetalia fans ( you guys really like hetalia and it's a huge topic in tamachat 45% of the time, you also make quite a large amount of tamatalk user-wise )
- half-halfs ( you guys talk about tamas but travel around the forums more, sometimes logging and role-playing or hanging out in non-tamatalk )
- others ( you guys talk about anything that's not tama-related, usually they're roleplayers or avid writers/drawers, and stop playing with tamas a while ago or never did )

and it seems recently there have been a few fights among the four groups! :c

let me get this straight: we're human. it's not our fault we have freedom to think differently. it's not our fault we have opinions. it's not our fault we like things you don't! ;o

and i'm sorry you guys are upset by this, but.. this is kind of silly!! :0

so loves, i think this down here is the right thing to do, you don't have to follow this exactly, i just think i'd be a good thing to keep in mind.

if you are a tama fan? i'd recommend staying within the tamatalk tamagotchi forum, it's probably the place right for you! but please please pleeeease don't tell us non-tama playing people to pick up a tama and tell us off when we actually have never played a tamagotchi. but if you really are disrupted and want a better place for your log or something, why not head on over to tama-zone for more tama-related stuff? there is a LOT more tama stuff there and i think maybe keep your fun stuff and logs here and post more serious tama-related stuff there. ( I AM NOT FORCING YOU TO, YOU GUYS, I'M JUST RECOMMENDING ITTTTTTT :V )

if you are a hetalia fan? i'm perfectly fine with you guys here and i don`t see anything wrong with hetalia, but it's not really the kind of thing i like. please don't annoy the tama fans too much though, i think they just need a bit of space. there actually isn't as much tama stuff here as you think!

if you are a half-half? i appreciate that you are not extremely obsessed with tamas and you're not telling non-tama playing people to immediately pick up a tama and start playing. but be careful of being to drawn to one side than another; some people you know might not appreciate it (trust me, i've experienced this first-hand)

if you are an other: hey! welcome to my side of tamatalk, haha. usually i just kind of hang out in non-tama areas but sometimes pick up a tama and get obsessed again, haha. i guess you can take from what i do if you want? but you don't have to, don't worry UuU!

so yes! sorry if this is a bit rushed but i needed to do this quick.

(tl;dr) please pleeeeaaase respect everyone else even if they are very different from you and honestly i hope this is all gonna work out okay for everybody c;!!

#3169352 Happy 8th Birthday TamaTalk!

Posted by Admin on 15 June 2012 - 02:56 AM

Well I am sitting here stunned.  I still can't believe that 8 years after starting this site that it would still be a part of my life. I never knew what I was getting myself into that day...  I had no idea that I would be at the beginning of years of being a part of (what I consider to be) one of the best online communities I am a part of.  No idea that I would be able to meet so many very cool people from around the world that shared a common love of these things we call Tamagotchis.  How can anyone have guessed?  I consider myself to be very lucky and I have all of you to thank.  June 15 is the anniversary of TamaTalk's humble beginning way back in 2004.  I am very grateful to all of you for the years you have let me admin this site.  Thank you all for making TT a part of your life too and thanks for being so awesome. :D  It is with great pleasure that I say...

HAPPY 8th BIRTHDAY TAMATALK!!!

#3167410 Tamagotchi L.I.F.E, New from Bandai

Posted by binary on 03 June 2012 - 06:09 AM

Have a look at this Bandai Japan page explaining "what's Tamagotchi": http://tamagotch.channel.or.jp/about/

Notice that at the center is the Tamagotchi toy, but all around it are many tie-in products: toys, the anime series, arcade games, console games (for Nintendo DS), snack foods, clothes, books, stationery, books, etc.

I imagine Bandai America has finally figured out that the toy by itself, as an orphan product won't work. They've got to build product awareness, using a wide range of Tamagotchi character products, to keep it in the consumer's mindspace. They may not have a Tamagotchi toy planned for immediate release, but if this campaign is successful, I imagine a new Tamagotchi toy will be coming.

#3157254 "Hacked" accounts on TamaTalk

Posted by TamaMum on 09 April 2012 - 10:34 AM

I've noticed a few posts by different members recently complaining that their TamaTalk user name has been "hacked".

TamaTalk is a pretty secure site and to be honest, there are really only a couple of ways another person can "hack" your account.

In most cases the "hacker" is usually someone who is able to use the same computer as you - such as a sibling or friend at home or school / work who may also visit TamaTalk or who knows you visit TamaTalk.

The easiest way for someone to "hack" your account is when you don't sign out of TamaTalk properly.

Signing out of TamaTalk is like closing the door behind you when you leave your house.   Your password is like the key to get back into the house.

Don't get "hacked" :

Sign Out When you've finished visiting the site.

1.  Click on your profile pic (top right hand side of the computer screen) and click on the "Sign Out" link.

OR

2.  Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the TamaTalk home page and click on the "Delete Cookies" link.

DON'T just close the browser window!
You may still be logged in and the next person who uses your computer can bring up the previous site visited.  If you're still logged in they can post whatever they want on your user name.

You are responsible for your account / user name - and you are also responsible for whatever is posted on this site under that user name - whether or not it was you, your sibling, your ex-best friend or your dog ;)

Sign Out and use your password to make sure it is only you who gets to use your account.

Keep your password safe.
Memorise it.  Don't write it down and never (never, never) share it with anyone else - no matter how much you think you can trust them - not your sibling, not your best friend or your dog ;)

Much of this advice is already posted in our Users Guide to TamaTalk: How to Keep Your Account Safe: http://www.tamatalk....r-account-safe/
(For those who think it is just about not posting personal info, you might want to refresh your memory by reading that topic)

#3214220 Tamagotchi L.I.F.E, New from Bandai

Posted by anzfalcontchi on 12 February 2013 - 11:17 AM

Yes, however Tama L.i.f.e. is aimed at women in their early 20's and up. People in this demographic prefer "digital" stuff (which is disappointing for most of us, but sadly this is where the trend is going).

Kids these days aren't really interested in virtual pets anymore anyway.

Well making products one by one cost money. Money they seem not to have with the flop of the music stars and tamago back to back... They are nice tamas, sure. Over-all... It wasn't held in the best of light.

Next point.
You wanted color. To use something already out there, usually a phone is on a person. (maybe not a smartphone, but phones are WAY more common then from when I was a kid) One less thing to forget. I personally think it maybe a good move. They are working with what they have access to without spending what they have. It can be upgraded, translated and of coarse, color.

Hopefully one day the shells, traditional tamagotchi will be back. I would rather have a shell, but something is better then nothing.

Yeah... People think that brands have lots of money from the start, but it's not true. They have funds they can not exceed before they make money on their own to add to it... And the project isn't even toy related.

I have to agree on these. To be honest I wasn't expecting the app to be a Tamagotchi toy, all along I was thinking its gonna be some sort of other app that has the digital characters. The company still listens to what the fans wanted, to be honest syncbeats is working as much as they can especially that they only have limited budget and also licensing.

I randomly thought of these, I think it's good that they also started with the old digital characters because not everyone knows or familiar of the new anime characters unless they're one of the loyal fans who are active here/&Tamazone or updated with Japan's releases. Starting and introducing the vintage characters again to old and new fans will hopefully bring back the popularity of Tamagotchi back in the US.(As for old fans this is something nostalgic and for the new generation of course something cool because it is from the 90s) I stay positive and hopeful that it will bring back the popularity it used to have back then, and by that time the company will have the budget and the license for the anime characters and slowly introduce them the audience. As I have mentioned before, USA is way behind from Japan's Tamagotchi they already in Season 6 on the anime and Tamagotchi P's toys. While USA stopped at Tama Go and Music stars a long time ago. The tamagotchi toy is not really selling anymore that's why they were pulled out from the market. Its gonna take a lot of money, support and a lot of big meetings for Bandai JP/Bandai USA/ Syncbeats to put back and manufacture the original toy on the shelf. It's not that easy... I know everyone wanted the English Tama P's, but is it really enough people bring those here? I hope everyone here understands that. (Were talking about making sales to the entire states)

I've read that somebody was quite really upset and flushed Tamagotchi LIFE in her toilet because the game will be on smartphones, I understand that you're disappointed but let's be honest that there's a lot and enough people that owns smartphones nowadays for them to make an app. This will generate funds and popularity for Tamagotchi, that will help us expand this campaign. It's a great way to advertise this brand again since most of the people in the US are familiar with the old, simple and digital characters of Tamagotchi back in the days(and hooked on their smartphones). The app has a free version and a 99cents one with no ads, I think nobody can beat that price. The loyal fan community needs to consider that outside this forum, other people would rather buy the app rather than getting the actual toy right now. I have a lot of friends who grew up playing with Tamagotchi and saw my P's and old tmgc but would rather wait and DL the app instead of buying the Japanese ID L and P's. (They told me they're too expensive and they look complicated for them LOL)

Anyway let's all stay positive and hope for the best, lastly if you feel disgusted with the digital characters keep in mind all our beloved anime/colored and new tamagotchi's all started from this. (With the support and funding we will catch up)

Good morning from Los Angeles, CA!

#3213288 Tamagotchi L.I.F.E, New from Bandai

Posted by graficks on 08 February 2013 - 01:13 PM

Personally, I'm really excited about a "retro" styled Tamagotchi app. I'm practically glued to my iPhone because of work anyway...so it makes it extremely convenient (and fun!) to have an official Tamagotchi with me all the time.

Don't get me wrong, nothing can replace the original experience - and nor do I think BanDai is aiming to do that. But with demographic that Tamagotchi L.I.F.E is marketing towards, most of the people (and by people I mean girls) will be carrying smart phones. So it makes sense in my eyes. It's a cheap and efficient way to get a Tamagotchi back in the hands of mainstream consumers as well. This is the evolution of Tamagotchi in North America. We love our iPods, iPhones, Android devices, etc...and from a consumer sales perspectives, people are spending A LOT of money on apps so it works from a profit perspective as well.

I'm embracing this change. I won't ever use the app as a complete replacement for the experience of running a Tamagotchi, but the app fits my lifestyle much better than the original..and so again, I welcome this change. Let's be thankful that we have had the opportunity to buy the physical version of Tamagotchi to play with, to connect with, to log about, to add to our collection. Those are great memories that will last forever. And so with this change, lets be open to what BanDai has in store for us. Perhaps they will port a full colour version for us in the future (similar to gameplay on the ID L's and P's). Who knows? iOS and Android are amazing platforms to deliver these kinds of experiences to many people quickly and cheaply.

My two cents :)

:) 2: RETURN OF THE :)

Of course I had heard the stories, everyone had. But they were just things to scare kids with. Complete and utter nonsense, a monster that caused you soul to collapse on itself? It was crazy. One night, however, that all changed.

It was after a particularly disturbing story about an angel and I was walking along a dimly lit hall at the local community centre that I had volunteered at after being encouraged to do something for the community. Suddenly, I felt a shiver run down my spine. "Hello?" I asked. I quickly relaxed, it was obviously nothing, and I was just unsettled after that story, that’s all. Despite this, I began to walk faster. I only had one more building to lock, the old library, and then I could go home. I felt that presence again and quickly turned around to face the way I’d come. Nothing there, of course, but by now I was genuinely frightened.  I heard a laugh in the distance, and that was what broke me. I couldn’t take this any more, I broke into a run, but by now it was too late.

The darkness reached out to me and covered me in :). I tried to scream out, but the :) had already completely taken over. I tried to lash out at the :), but nothing could hurt it. I felt something reaching out from deep with in me, and in horror I realised that I was the :)! The :) consumed me, and I consumed it, for I am the :), and the :) is me. All shall become :)

#3182824 How to transfer downloads using USB to IrDA (Pictures)

Posted by TamaTamatchi on 24 August 2012 - 11:15 AM

Hello everybody. Today I would like to explain step by step on how to transfer files from your computer to your iD L by just using a USB to IrDA. There might be a topic on this but people are still very confused and most people say they take very long. Mine is with pictures and I explain it more clearly and step by step. Anyways, lets get onto the tutorial!

Step 1

Posted Image

Please insert your USB to IrDA into your computer. When doing this, it should pop up saying "Downloading USB into computer" onto your computer. Do NOT connect your Tamagotchi right away, wait until it has finished downloading. After you've completed all of this, your ready for step 2.

Step 2

Posted ImagePosted Image

After the USB cable has been downloaded you could now connect your Tamagotchi iD L to the computer. Go to the 5th icon and select the 4 option (translate means downloads). Connect it to your USB to IrDA. Be sure that the connection is straight together or it will take longer than your expecting (it shouldn't take you longer than 1 connection). After you've completed this, you're ready for step 3.

Step 3
Posted Image ------->
Posted Image

Keep connecting until an app appears on your computer. It should say "Send files to another computer" click on that app before it goes away. Do not send the file right away! It will corrupt the system and it will freeze! Find the file you want to send, connect your iD L again. and straight away when it say "TMGC is in Range" you double click the file right away or it will freeze.

Enjoy! :)

Pango, if you refer back to the first page of this topic you'll have your questions answered. :)

Like binary mentioned earlier, BanDai America has probably come to realize that the Tamagotchi toy itself is not a profitable product on its own. So perhaps by introducing lifestyle products (very much like Hello Kitty - and look how widespread the success of that brand is), perhaps Tamagotchi can be popular again.

I still highly doubt that BanDai would release Tamagotchi products without the actual toy itself. Introducing other merchandise is a smart move, it builds awareness and creates an eco-system within the brand so that it can sustain the MAIN product, which is the Tamagotchi itself. I don't know about you, but I would love to get my hands on some new plushes, cases, t-shirts...maybe even an iPhone case! Who knows right? I don't think we need to be worried, in fact we should celebrate that BanDai has not forgotten its fans and why we love Tamagotchi so much.

I, for one, am very excited about this release! Maybe this is the resurgence of the Tamagotchi brand we've all been waiting for!

#3124574 you know you're obsessed when...

Posted by PoesRaven on 20 November 2011 - 04:29 AM

When you talk to them
kiss them good night
sit them around you when you watch your shows
gain the nickname tama mama [or dada for the men ;) ]
talk tamas with your family and show off that cute character you got
their beeps are sometimes more effective than your alarm clock and could probably wake you from a coma
hold contests with your tamas, the ones that win get a special spot on your person when you go on trips [so they can see the world the rest stay in your pocket]
you keep them in your hoodie pocket when it is cold out so they are warm
name them after characters from your favorite shows or characters you have created
save up for tamagotchis all the time and get them in the order of your most wanted, going into in depth research, to decide which ones they will be [getting them all eventually of course]
the most effective way to get you to talk is by taking your tamagotchi away from you
if you take a nap you set your tamagotchis next to your pillow in case they beep for you

in case you don't notice... I am guilty of all... I am a sad excuse for an adult v_v

#3220925 New rules and some changes for signatures

Posted by Admin on 25 March 2013 - 12:03 PM

Hello everyone!

Over the years our rules on signatures have evolved and changed quite a bit.  I have been seeing and hearing about a number of problems with some member signatures that result in major distractions while trying to read topics and stuff.  I am talking about things like reading a post that includes a signature which seems to be 10 times as long as each post a member makes or including some things that distract while reading a topic.  I think the time has come for some new limits to be placed on signatures.

These are the new limits for signatures:

Number of images: 1 image at 300 x 60 pixels

Number of lines: 9

BBCodes removed: Quote and Spoiler from signatures: Quote and Spoiler

Some explanation for these...

Number of images: This rule remains unchanged form the current.  I know many people have asked for being able to put larger images in their sigs but a signature is meant to be more a brief expression of yourself and not a big one...  You can express yourself best using the fields in your profile.

Number of lines: The new limit helps to control how much space a signature takes up on a page.  Nine lines is about the size of the quick reply box.  There is not a limit on font size since each font is different.  We do ask that you keep font size reasonable.  If your signature is taking up more space than the quick reply box at the bottom of a topic page, then it is probably too big.  I know a lot of people like to list out their collections...  Which is awesome to see...  But not with EVERY post they make.  I have added a 'My Collection' area to your profiles.  You can add as many lines as you need to show off your collection of virtual pets.  Just edit your profileto fill in your collections.

BBCodes removed: These two bbcodes have been used by some and so I am sorry if this disappoints anyone.  They are distracting and mostly unneeded in a signature.  They can be used in posting and everywhere else like before...  Just not in signatures.

One additional signature thing many people have asked about is adding a 'Likes' image like the ones Graficks made for all the TamaTalk Staff.  He was kind enough to make images that everyone can use in their signature.

links-i-like-blue.jpg [linksblue]

links-i-like-green.jpg [linksgreen]

links-i-like-orange.jpg [linksorange]

links-i-like-pink.jpg [linkspink]

links-i-like-purple.jpg [linkspurple]

You can insert one of these into your signature by putting the bbcodes above.  This only works in signatures.  If you use the bbcode to insert it then this image will NOT count against your 1 image limit.

Please understand that changes to rules like this are never taken lightly.  The Guides and I have been discussing this for a while.  We know new limits can seem cruel but please udnerstand that we are aiming for a smooth reading experience for everyone.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts. :)
