what does a fake tama look like?

I'm gusseing all tamas with numbers in it is fake.Tell me if it's wrong h34r:

if you wanna see some fakes, look through the myriad of posts in this forum that link to fake auctions.

and tamafox, when you say numbers in the name, do you mean as in v1, v2, v8, v11, etc? v1, v2, v3, and v4 have actually been released. Any v# above that is fake. However, note that sellers will still often try to sell fakes by the name of v1-v4.

check for different spellings (tamogatchi instead of tamagotchi), touch-screen V4's and any versions above 4.5

Especially if they have a JD logo, don't buy them.

NO it's fake. There is no tama EVER relesed like that...It looks like one of JD's.

I'm afraid that is, in fact, a fake tama. It says "JD" right in the Auction title; a name synonymous with fake tams.

I bought a fake tama.......wasted $14.37!!!!!!!!!I figured it out after I unsurewd the bak to see if it came with a battery........It was hallow inside.....IT EVEN HAD THE BANDI SYMBOL!!!!!! ^_^

isn't it illegal to copy someone's idea? like with some people who try to sell fake tamagotchis??? and ESPECIALLY if the tamagothis (or any other toy!) are copyrighted! (did i spell that right?) lol and that one picture that Medicham12 showed...that looks totally fake like he/she said! lol and lupy10172 u should sell it back! lol

yes, it is. That's why the bandai logo is almost never on the packaging of fake tamagotchis. There used to be a lot of fakes that said "tamagotchi" right on the packaging, but they seem to be thinning out, too (note: this is just what I have observed.) because the fakers can get in big trouble for copyright infringement.

Unfortunately, Ban Dai can't really chase after these guys because they are 1) often under the jurisdiction of different countries, making it difficult for bandai USA/Japan to take them to court, and 2) Because they'd probably lose more money chasing all the little faker companies than they would just letting them manufacture fakes.

Some of the ones you see on ebay aren't really trying to pose as anything else, it's just the ebay user will put tamagotchi in the title because that's what a lot of people search for. The more words you cram into a lot title or into a description the more hits you get on a certain item. It stands to reason that someone searching Tamagotchi will always be looking for other virtual pets, at least to a seller. It might not be the company trying to trick you, just trying to cash in on a popular theme. It's the user that's responsible for false advertising. (Watch out for ebay pictures that are only partial and don't show the whole packaging, etc.)

I have no problem with knock-offs, any good product will always have them. I think the problem comes in when you're going to be paying genuine prices for the cheaper ones. Some of the cheaper virtual pets have their own charm, but obviously you won't get the same quality (having ones break easily, lame graphics or so on) that you would with Bandai Tama's.

Before you say it obviously packaging that says Tamagotchi right on it and is fake sucks. Boo to them.
