what are 'fake tamagotchis'?

ive heard lots about fake tamagotchis, but i dont know that much at all. can someone clue me in? what are they? what do they do? do they even work at all?

 
fake Tamagotchis are any virtual pet that is made to look like a Tamagotchi.

it is a fake if:

*it copies the name closely.

*it looks very close to what a "real" one looks like.

*it copies bandai's logo. (veryyyy bad)

sry, my shift key is sticking... again...
