Pixel Chick Roomies HELP!

My pixel chick won't do anyting but sleep, even from the beginning that all it will do. The Arrows and other buttons don't seem to do anything. please help!

Did you make sure you pulled the tab out?

[B] I purchased the same item for my daughter and I'm having the same problem and this is the second house that I have purchased.
