The theme of this month's contest is Tamagotchi character pictures created using ASCII Art.

Contest deadline for entries is: November 26, 2008

The contest winner will be announced: December 1, 2008

Rules:
[1] Entries must be no larger than 1000 bytes. (The above ASCII Art requires 974 bytes.) To check how many bytes your ASCII Art requires, click "Check Post Length" just to the left of the message edit box.
[2] Entries must be new work that was created by hand, specifically for this contest.
[3] Entries must conform to this month's theme. The usual TamaTalk rules about inappropriate content also apply.
[4] Members can submit more than one entry, but please remember, we're judging on quality, not quantity.
[5] Entries must be submitted by the deadline. The time zone used for contests will be USA Central Time Zone.

Who is eligible to enter: All TamaTalk members. (TamaTalk staff can also enter, but are ineligible to win.)

Judges: TamaTalk staff.

Prize: There will be a prize for first place only. The member submitting the entry judged to be the best will win a TamaTalk Angelgotchi membership. (Click here for more information about TamaTalk Angelgotchi.)

How to submit your entry: send a PM to me with the subject line "November Contest Entry", containing your ASCII Art.

Note: my PM inbox is not infinitely large. I will attempt to keep it from overflowing, but in the event of it filling up with a last minute rush on November 26, only those entries which actually make it into my inbox will be accepted. (Translation: don't wait until the last minute to submit your entry.)

Problems to watch out for and helpful hints:
(1) Most fonts have characters of different widths. This makes it tricky to line up characters vertically, from one line to the next.
Example:
xxi
wwi - notice the "i"s don't line up above/below each other

(2) Empty spaces at the beginning of each line are usually ignored, when the line of text characters are displayed.
Example:
i - I didn't type any spaces before the "i"
i - I typed one space before the "i"
i - I typed two spaces before the "i"

(3) Multiple spaces within a line are usually displayed as a single blank space.
Example:
i i - I typed one space between the "i"s
i i - I typed two spaces between the "i"s
i i - I typed three spaces between the "i"s

Problem #1 can be avoided by specifying a mono-space font, such as Fixedsys.

Problems #2 & #3 can be avoided by filling in the empty space with characters you've colored white.

Of course there's a cost to these solutions. The "font=Fixedsys" & "/font" tags and the "color=white" & "/color" tags add onto your byte count.

Last word of advice: don't forget to preview your message before you click Send. The last thing you want is to find you your entry doesn't display as you thought it should.
