Hi! I'm new to this site and actually new to Tamagotchi in general so I don't really know how to spot a fake or not! I was looking around ebay when I saw this v5 Tamagotchi:

Ebay link

I have never seen this design on Bandai's website before...and doesn't v5 Tamagotchi say "Tamagotchi Connection" on the top of the egg? This one doesn't. Maybe it's just a design that hasn't been released in the US? ^^;

The design looks really nice though! Definably caught my eye! :D

Do you guys think it's real? Am I just being sceptical? XD

Yes it is. Also not all Tamas say Tamagotchi at the top, The BanDai sign tells it real. No fake company would risk taking BanDai sign.

Actually, TGirl, there are a few Tamagotchi's listed in this warning section that have the Bandai logo, and are fake, there are many people in the world that will put a logo on the item and try and sell it off, so that is no reason to say that the Tamagotchi is 100% real.

I live in the US and there are labels at the top of the Tamagotchi's, so this one I believe is fake simply because of this and the paint job. This is not a style listed on the website here, but it may be in another part of the world, I am no expert.

The quality and off coloring of the paint job screams fake to me, but the package seems real enough, however, I have seen people use the real package, put in a fake item, and seal it up again very carefully, it isn't unheard of.

Wait for some more people to come around and give you a more in depth answer, but i think that the item in question in fake

Thanks for the reply, Kiki, Tgirl!

I was tempted to buy it but something in the back of my mind told me I shouldn't so I did more research on it.

I came out with this:

JD FAKE Tamagotchi

The design looks...reallly....familiar. So I dug some more and I found this:

JD Toys FAKE v5 Tamagotchis

I have to say that packaging is PRECISE. I mean, minor color changes, missing "Connection" and that Bandai logo, other than that, it looks looks like a v5 Tamagotchi! Man, those people know how to copy. D:

And see that one on the upper right hand corner? It looks a lot like that one for sale on ebay.

So....I think it's a fake too. The pictures are very blury though (perhaps for a reason), but signs are pointing to fake.

Also...

...people can't post images in this forum? O_O The img tags don't seem to work.

That is a real V5. I have that design. It is the V5 I played with when I had a V5 going.

For consideration of fakes, you also have to take note of where they are coming from. That one is a US Tamagotchi coming out of the US. It is genuine.

That is also the V5 packaging.

what do you mean the quality of the paint is fake to you? looks fine to me!

Also, watch out for JD (Jidan) because although they don't take the Bandai logo, They do use Tamagotchi characters and the name "Tamagotchi for their packaging.

this is NOT A FAKE! my friend has this one, and it doesn't say tamagotchi on the top. i have another design that doesn't say tamagtochi on the top also. i actually have two and only one of them says tamagotchi. they connect fine tho, so i know they aren't fake

Not all Tamagotchis have to say Tama on the top. I have more than 6 Tamagotchis and only 1 says Tama on the top but I am sure they are real because they connect smoothly and I bought it at the mall. :furawatchi:

Don't worry, there aern't that much fake stuff, maybe it just seems to be fake but it might be real? I went to a store and saw a version 4 Tama, I asked about the prize, the prize seemed fake, 20 RMB however I took the risk to try and so I bought it. Now, it's at home, still working and it connects fine with the real ones.

Don't judge a Tamagotchi by it's cover and prize!!

Pink Memetchi

what do you mean the quality of the paint is fake to you? looks fine to me!
Oh, I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense... I think that the colors just look, well, more... stickered on, if that makes sense. I'm not sure how to explain it, but the colors just look obscenely off to me, though because of the amount of people that say it's real I do think that it's real.

I probably don't make sense at all, but... I don't know, the paint looks off to me, because the only times I've seen paint like that it was on fake ones, myself. Like... in flea markets, but those were years ago, and not around the time of the v5. I wasn't saying that it was fake, though, I was saying that I thought it was myself, but to wait for more opinions. I can be wrong, I know that :gozarutchi:
