Putting them away

Today, I did something I never quite expect myself to every do. I put away my Tamagotchis. I love my Tamas. They were great to play with when I was bored, to care for and nourish, to cry and laugh about. But a little before summer ended they started to become a hassle. The neediness, the fight to get it to a great character, making sure they didn't die. Somewhere along the line, they were no longer fun. So I took every Tamagotchi of mine I could find, placed them all into a jewelry box, and locked it. I am no longer a Tamagotchi player.

I don't know when I'll ever touch them again. But when I do, trust me, it would be one hell of a reunion.

So now, I have a few questions. When do you know its over? When do you know you're done playing with your virtual friends? When do you realize they just aren't fun any more?

I gave up on all electronic pets years ago. I thought I was done for life, but here I am getting back into them again. You did the smart thing, keeping them but putting them away. I sold all mine, and now I wish I hadn't. You may just need a break from them, or you may be finished for good. You never really know. If you had asked me around the time I sold all of mine if I'd ever want them back I'd have said no. But now I'm realizing how stupid I was.

I don't think it's fair to say that you're completely done after you got frustrated. Just take a hiatus from them, cool down, and you'll probably end up restarting them again somewhere down the road.

It's perfectly fine if you don't want to play with them for the time being. I have taken many hiatuses from virtual pets, both long and short. But I've always come back, because after a while I start to think about them and all the memories they hold.

That happens. After all, they are just toys and not pets.

I just took out my old V1 and V2. I put them in an old bonsai pot two years ago, never thinking they would be used again. they're funnier than the new ones i think.

I regularly take a break from running tamagotchis.

To answer your question(s) - you never know for sure when it's finally over

You never know when you're done playing with your virtual friends - the only thing you notice is when they're not fun anymore - and that's the time to tab 'em and pack them away for a while.

Like others have said, keep them safe and wait.

I hate thinking about not playing Tamagotchis anymore because after all this hard work, I'll feel like I wasted my time. I don't think I'll ever GIVE UP tamagotchis completely. For tama sakes, I dug through the garbage looking for my v4.5 that my mom threw away. Don't ask.

I might not care for them the way I do, today, though...someday in the future...

Actually, I've been feeling like this for over year. I think I've had enough cooling down time.

I started playing tama when they first started in 1997, I will stop playing with them every few years,

and I do regret selling some old ones and throwing some of them away.. ;_;

I'd say keep yours safe untill another time!^^

well i havent done that yet since i only got new batterys yesterday but i had one once before and i played with it but the batterys ran out so i stoped playing

I only stop when batteries die. That, seeing them as battery-operated, is periodical. But I do mourn for the loss; and I wait until the opportunity to replenish their system.

Hola, it's perfectly normal!

I just got back from like an 8 month hiatus from tamas. The batteries were on sale, and I was like "okay why not". Now I have my V4 running again. I also have a V2 and a V3. I am even thinking of buying a TMGC+C online!

When I do want to take a break, I put them in a special flat tin in my room. So it's always there when I feel like playing again. Don't ever throw them away!

It's perfectly normal to take a break from your Tamas. I do all the time. I get bored with one version, put it away, then start up another version. Keeps things more interesting. I'm not ready to give them up, however.
