Go to Tamagotchi.com, click "Downloads", and then click "Desktop Buddies". Download it, and you'll see what they are.
I used to have them, but my parents got angry at me for having them, so I had to delete them.

i do! it's so awesome! you'll love it. each character has little actions it can do. though if you want a background that doesnt come with it you'll have to change it in your preferences after each time you select your character. they also make cute expressions when bored and follow your cursor with their eyes! too cute!whats on my mind is the tamagochi desktop buddy
