Check you Tamagocthi's clock, and make sure it's set to the correct time. Most characters go to bed by 9 PM, but a few bad-care characters might stay up to as late as 10 PM.
Also, baby-stage characters will stay awake (except for a short nap) until they turn into toddlers. Baby stage occurs just after the egg was hatched, and lasts for about an hour.
