Katy Miller was an ordinary girl, like in most stories, the main characters always seem to defeat the evil darkness, and it is always an ordinary person. Katy had long dark hair, icy blue eyes and pale skin, like any ordinary girl, she is curious. One rainy afternoon, she went to look in the local bookstore to see if there was anything interesting, she searched high and low until she spotted a large volume with a red and black cover in the back bookshelf. Like most girls, she is the kind that judges the book by its cover, so she thought it was a really interesting book. She leafed through the book and all she saw were pictures. The pictures were truly strange and alarming. She couldn’t stop looking at the book, would this really drive her to insanity? No, when she came to what looked like page thirteen she began to feel strange, she looked down at her arms and saw that she was disappearing. Katy dropped the book and desperately tried to get away from this curse that was upon her. But no-one else in the shop realised she was there. She was mercilessly dragged into the book by a mysterious force. She saw fire, and her eyes began to close....

Katy opened her eyes and found herself at an abandoned fairground. She sat up and looked up at the sky, where she sees the large silver circle, the moon. Katy looked around for some sign of life and found nothing but large words etched onto the concrete beneath her feet, making out the message,

“In the haunted fairground you must seek,

a silver box adorned with silver cobwebs and Rubies.

If you do not find it before sunrise

you will face a deadly demise. -Death”

Katy started exploring the fairground, first she looked in the House of Mirrors. She glanced around at the mirrors and saw nothing but a faint mist, she looked around and saw that she found a mirror door. She pushed against the mirror and found herself falling through the air. Right before she hit the ground, she suddenly stopped and slowly drifted down. She stood up and found herself in a gypsy’s tent. She stared into the cloudy crystal ball and saw the sun rising. Katy gasped in disbelief and looked out of the tent flaps and saw the ruby red sky of a rising sun. She waited for herself to disappear, and instead she fell through the dissolving ground. Katy was falling through a portal into another dimension.

The portal that took Katy away took her to a black void. Then a deep voice boomed “You have failed the task that has been given to you and now I shall take your life...”

“But that is very unfair! You only gave me an hour!”

Katy felt her blood boil and her insides churn, her lungs screamed in protest as her life was being torn away from her body. She groped around in the air with her hands and found nothing.

Katy Miller fell to the floor with a sickening thud.

Death had taken her soul away, Death put her soul in the pages of the Red and Black book along with Death’s Other Victims...
