Okay I know that there are a few retro gamers on tamatalk but I think there are more. Are you a retro gamer? A retro gamer is a gamer who plays and POSSIBLY prefers gaming from the 70's 80's and 90's aka the earlier consoles, so no ps3 or xbox (the reason the wii is not on that list is because of the virtual console). I am a retro gamer and because of this I am considered the biggest nerd in my group of friends. The fact that I am only 13 and that I am a retro gamer surprises most on the internet, but enough about me, how about you?

ps: I am a nintendo fanboy

Retro gaming all the way! There's a certain quality about retro games (and their systems) that new ones cannot touch. Of course the obvious, it's vintage, but most noticeably is the simplicity of vintage games. I have a NES, SNES, N64, Game Cube and a Wii - I love each system for different reasons, but mostly because of the simplicity and timeless fun. You'll notice a lot of "retro" style games released on iPod touch and iPhone because of these qualities - and that's what keeps people playing.

I still have a playable Atari.... Frogger still gets pancaked. I love it...

Then my Game Boy, the monocrome color one. Its best color, the green piece on the screen protector. Lol. (Better known as Game Boy Brick)

Retro gaming ftw! I actually bought a N64 a few years back because i was too young when it was in its prime, so I wanted to see what i missed basically, and i love it! It was really cheap, but i will treasure it always. I really want a SNES now.

I also used to play the Sega genesis a lot at my uncle's house, but since he passed away years ago, i haven't. i think its still boxed away somewhere at my grandparents' house though, so maybe eventually i can have it.... But anyway, it was also a really awesome game console. omg, original sonic game was awesome!

And I have the original Legend of Zelda, the remake for GBA. And for Christmas I got super mario All-Stars, which is a collection of original mario game remakes.

There is just a certain simplicity to retro games that new games just can't stand up to. Sure there's amazing graphic capabilities now, but the games themselves aren't as amazing. That's why games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii are so great, because it's basically the same game mechanics as the originals, but with better graphics. However, I still find the old pixellated graphics to be visually appealing. That graphic style actually looks kind of cute to me.

funny story about super mario all stars, originally it was an snes game. not knowing it was about to come out on the wii with the soundtrack I got the original game cartridge, the next day it came out on the wii. but a friend of mine gave me the sound track out of their copy seeing as he did not want it. so now i am happy

yeah, i knew it was a snes remake, but that's such a coincidence! I actually never heard of the wii remake until i received it for Christmas from my parents. But I do love it! The soundtrack is a nice bonus as well, and I was really impressed with the box. It looks all fancy and stuff.
