Admin should really just close the topic and deal with it the way he see's fit. the topic and discussion has gotten out of hand and is causing a lot of conflict......

Nope... You pasted the normal version embed back on it. Oh well.

<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="230" height="159" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/sFpcHbrhoGw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Try that one....

Atleast for time being until people really decide on what is to happen of the videos... That one is much smaller... For a video player with just music... That is a way better size for you.

Dear Rose... your post was lovely.
May I commend both you AND Graficks for being mature about this?

I am watching this spill over into Status... I hope there is decision soon.
This thread is causing many bad bloods.

Try the Spoiler Tag Tamav9. See if that works for you.
Also... To tell someone it is their computers fault or to "Buy a new computer" is NOT a solution.

The current signature videos are made by posting just the url to the video and not the embed code (that allows you to change the sizing) so making them smaller is, unfortunately, not an option.

Great point in comparing the size of the videos to the signature image sizes... I hadn't even considered that comparison. Hmm...

As far as this discussion goes... I hope this isn't something we start to fight about. Discussions/debates aren't supposed to cause people to get angry. We are all one community here and we need to remember we are trying to have mature discussions amongst friends... No fighting needed. :D Sometimes we'll get the decision we want and other times we won't but in the end we are still here to make this community a better one.

I don't think so - even if there's an option to take it off. Videos will slow down the loading of the pages - some people aren't on fast connections.

Perhaps everyone should just remember to keep calm and try to follow site rules when they post their replies? That would work just fine.
Then the moderators wouldn't have to edit or delete rudeness, spam or off topic replies ;)

It would be a shame to close the topic before a variety of members have had a chance to contribute their opinion. After all, this isn't about just one person getting their own way just because it suits them - it's about trying to find a way to solve the problem some members obviously have with lag on their computers when videos are embedded in signature messages.

Then that would explain why helping to shrink the video didn't work... hahaha. Figures, didn't even think of it just using the direct link. I'm used to the embedding codes.

Really? Thats what I was wondering when they first popped up in the forums... "Isn't that sorta like... breaking image size the rules?" Humm...

I have decided to take out the video because it is now.... don't judge me, messing up the CPU.

Personally, I think that users shouldn't put videos in their signatures.
I think hyperlinks look more organized, and they don't stretch out the page as much. And, since there's really only one size for youtube video players, videos tend to exceed the image size limit.

As of this post we have just over 70% of 46 votes in favor of banning videos in signatures. I'd like to keep this poll open for another week or so before we talk about formalizing a rule. Please vote if you haven't already and thank you to those who have voted and contributed to the discussion. :D

That'd be pretty neat, Admin. (:

If people don't want it taking up a lot of the screen, There could be a button to click on the signature to view the video (Like on some websites with the "View Spoiler" button). Or maybe there could be a button to hide all videos in your site options menu. I don't see how hard that'll be, all you're doing is clicking a button.

Once again, that'd be pretty neat.

For those who want to store a video in their signatures, why not set up an external link?

If you just leave the video untouched, people will be annoyed by lag.
External links are easy to set up and just require one click to go to your link/video.

Just thinking.

Like so.

admin, you should put a button that blocks embedded vids and turns them into links, that way people will have the choice to see vids, kinda like spoilers.

You mean...

Get an HTML/BBcode blocking video codes? Its possible it will remove ALL embedding... I'm sure you'd like to keep your pictures...
You would need to block so many embedding codes, player codes and so-on.

I've seen a few posts here about spoilers again... It will NOT stop the youtube video 100%. Sure it will HIDE it... But not STOP it. Regardless you have pushed the play button or not... IT will still download the related video links... Which then link to the box. If you were to push play... Then stop.(Stop, Not Pause) They show up right away if stop is pushed.... Nya. This is what is slowing down loading for some people... adds more lag and without spoiler, extends the forum page.

I voted 'No'. I don't believe it is needed, and would prove to just be a distraction. It would also slow down the load time of the board.
