Don't think this is true and on the off chance that it is its probably because some annoying geek reprogrammed one tama to try spread a virus

Interesting... but it would be nice if you posted some info like where you heard this rumour ("my friend said..."?) or if you have a link to a post on another discussion forum?
What kind of virus? What would it do?
Not trying to be harsh here, but there's not a lot of info you've given us... so maybe it would have been worth waiting and posting something when you knew more about it?

I have a hard time believing this, especially with a lack of really technical terms (no offense). Why would some dude use a Tamagotchi, of all things, for such a project (they're not even that popular!). And how could a small electronic toy create any real damage anyhow?
