Today was my first time putting my tama into tamatown when I encountered another player. I wanted to chat with them, but all I could do was choose from the options they gave me in the chat option. Is there a way that I can chat with other users using my own typing? (Instead of just choosing from the listed words or phrases)

You have to use the selected chat list. There's no way of typing what you want.

Unfortunately, the addition of type-chatting would mean mean comments are easier to do. (I sometimes get cuss words in the mail made out of letters)

This version of TamaTown they're talking about is Music City (Tamagotchi Music Star/V6 and Tama-Go).
