Pictures in my Signature?

help signature pictures dimentions

I know how to put pictures in my signature. But the allowed dimensions are so weird! 300x60? What's up with that? I have seen some signatures with way bigger pictures. How can this be?

The images that are way bigger than the required dimensions are usually sponsor banners for other sites. I once had a banner for TamaCraze in my siggy, and the reason why it was allowed even though it was so big is because it was sponsering another site.
