Hey there. I recently decided that I'd like to get a Tamagotchi after having not owned one in over a decade. Hopefully this is the correct forum. =q

I was looking over Amazon, did some reasearch, and decided to come here for some more educated answers. I was hoping to not exceed $20 on one and purchasing it online isn't a problem for me. I was going to purchase a Go on Amazon but I read a couple iffy reviews and on top of it, I couldn't figure out what the difference is between these two:

Cheaper one

Slightly pricier one

Or even this one

I think they all might be the same version, but I'm not quite sure.

I saw a couple people talkin about that IDL one, but it looks like that's $80-100. @_@

I'm not really sure what preferences I'd have to help you guys out. If you decide to ask me questions to better come to a decision then I'm all for it. But it looks like for under $20, the variety of versions is kinda limited. lol

Thanks in advance for any help!

Tama-Gos! :D That's the latest English version, although it was released about two years ago. I have a lot of Tama-Gos in 4 different colors... I know a lot of people don't like it but it's my faovirte version. People just dislike it because they are HUGE. They are all pretty much the same. However, the top one is a Wave 2 Tama-Go and the others are Wave 1 Tama-Gos. Not much difference except for the game that comes with the figure AND the faceplate on the Wave 1 Tama-Go covers the screen (making it kind of hard to see) while the Wave 2 Tama-Go faceplate does not cover the screen (making it easier to see but doesn't protect it as much). I would go for the top one since it's the cheapest and is a wave 2 Tama-Go (I prefer the wave 2 ones). Oh, one more thing... You might want to purchase some separate figures to get more games and stuff to buy. Hope that helped! ;)

I personally don't like Tama-gos. They're fine for a little while, but eveuntually the size starts to get to you...

The Tama-go is very limited in features, which basically makes you have to buy separate figures if you want more gameplay.

If you'd like to see what Tama-gos are really about, check out Binary's Tama-go log in the "Tamagotchi News" section.

Depends on which version you had last... you said it's more than 10 years since you owned one - did you run any of the newer IR versions? V1-V3 for example?

After the V3 was launched the next version V4 and V4.5 had some quite different features and they're pretty popular - you can still pick them up for less than $20 on ebay - same goes for the V5 / V5.5 - different game play, different features - maybe needs more attention and time playing than the V4 / 4/5 (my opinion).

Both of those later versions are different enough from the older (relaunched) IR versions. After that the V6/Music Star is pretty popular - again, not so low maintenance as the V1-V3.

The Tama-go is bigger - definitely not one you can just slip into your pocket as you go to school/college/work. Most people who run the Tama-Go seem to enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies!

Eternal,

So are all the wave 2 ones the cheaper ones then on Amazon?

Violet,

I'll definitely check that when I get back from class.

TamaMum,

It didn't have IR way back when, at least I don't think it did. I'd definitely prefer one that doesn't require my attention every 10mins.

The music ones sound potentially interesting but you're saying they take a ton of attention?

Thanks again guys for all the info!

So I decided to buy one since it was so cheap. I picked up this one.

Not sure how good I'll find it to be, but I'm a little impatient. =P

TamaMum, or anyone for that matter, can you tell me a little more about the music/band ones? I'm afraid that it requires constant attention, which is something I'd like to avoid.

What other cheaper ones are there that are both fun and a little more laid-back (when it comes to that constant attention)?

Thanks!

The music one is called the Music Star, or V6. I myself am not very experienced with them, but I'm sure other people can give you information about the music star. In the meantime, the Tamagotchi Wikia has an overview of the music star HERE.

In terms of cheaper ones and more laid back ones, I think connections will suit you.

V1=very simple, first connection, can connect to V1-V4.5

V2=introduces shop, can connect to V1-V4.5

V3=introduces TamaTown, can connect to V1-V4.5

V4=introduces school and job opportunities, can connect to V1-V4.5

V4.5=has the same features of V4, different characters (Ura characters), can connect to V1-V4.5

V5=introduces the family concept, you can raise up to three characters at a time.

These are all pretty laid back with cute characters, do some research on them and their features to see what you like best. Good luck and congrats on your new tamas!

Thanks for the link to that page. I'm curious as to what other Tamagotchis have skill builders like that. It does sound interesting, but I'm quite curious how time consuming it'd end up being.

Connections? I found this page when trying to find some info on it.

After quickly lookin the page over, it's not all too clear what's the best to go with. >_<

From what I've heard, the music star is very time consuming. Other skill building tamagotchis are the V4 and V4.5, where the skill points influence their growth and job when they are older. I see why you're confused. xD

V1

V2

V3

V4

V4.5

V5

V5.5/celebrity

I forgot to mention the last one, it's just like the V5 except with different characters and families. ;)

Another tamagotchi you might want to try is...the chibi, I think. If you take a look at the list of tamagotchi releases on Wikipedia, it does tell about some low maintenance tamagotchis.

Look around eBay and amazon for cheaper ones, connections can be found at reasonable prices there. Additionally, there are some sellers on tBay as well so feel free to check it out!

The Music Star Tamagotchi is definately one you want to check multiple times an hour. The stress feature (for both the Tamagotchi and all of us ;) ) is what makes it so hard to take care off- you're constantly having to make it go down again.

Thanks for that list; guess some people didn't proofread their typing, as I saw some typos. =P

But anyways...The celebrity version potentially sounds neat. How time consuming is this one? Also, do you know why when I go to Tamatown (With IE or Chrome) it just won't load and gives me an error after 10-20 seconds.

Thanks for that bit of info. I kinda figured it might be something that needs constant attention.

My Tama-Go shows up in 10-14 hours! :pochitchi:

Any info about the celebrity Tamagotchi would still be appreciated.

Got my Tama-Go a couple days ago. It's a little bigger than an egg! It's a cute little thing though. Surprised that they don't much yet (?). Mine is a teenage now, I think. I guess teenagers don't do much anyways, do they? =q

the tamatown is all wonky, you have to use the european one.

Music Stars are pretty high attention. I call it my diva tama. XD But once you get used to them they're not too crazy. Tama-Gos are pretty fun, I just recently got mine and am enjoying it so far. I would say that it you've not had tamas for a while to go with a v4.5. The characters are cute and there's tons of fun jobs you can get. Those are the only 3 tamas I've had experience with,so I probably won't be able to help much. Have fun with your tamas! :)

You can do some fun stuff if you go to www.tamatown.com, and log in with your Tama. :)

What would you like to know about the V5.5?
I tried going there but it just doesn't seem to work on IE or Chrome.

As for the Celebrity Tamagotchi, I wanted to know how time consuming you feel it is? I have a Tama-Go now and it's pretty lax and I love the pause feature for when I just can't take care of it cuz of class or sleep.

I tried to find what you were talkin about and I don't know if I found the right thing. I downloaded Firefox and tried to run Tamatown with that and got the same problem that I do with IE and Chrome. =/

Help and/or links would be appreciated! =)

I have the Tama-Go right now (for a couple days now). She's a teen right now, but I think they get a job later. It's decent so far.

What's so much better about the 4.5? And is it possible to pick it up for cheap? I got the Tama-Go on Amazon for a little under $7, which was very appealing.

Thanks for the help, everyone!

Jubmaster, CheesyNoodleTama said that 4.5 is the one with jobs, not v4.5. ;)

TAMA-GO IS MY FAVORITE VERSION, WHY DON'T PEOPLE LIKE IT?

But anyway, a lot of people like 4.5 because it has the most fun mini-games and it's fun to get a job for your Tama, I guess... but I still prefer the Tama-Go. Version 3 is awesome as well. :D

Lots of people don't like the Tama-go because it's really hard to carry around.

Anyways, the V5.5 is fairly low maitnence; I'd say you should check on it every couple of hours, maybe every other hour or so. Yes, it does have the pause feature (although it's different than the normal pause on other Tamas). The "hardest" part of it is that there are specific times that you have to check on your Family so you can bond them. Every... two hours? Hour and a half? your family calls for attention with a sign over their heads, asking you to bond them. How much bonding you get determines what kind of adults you get.

Umm, that first statement doesn't make any sense. lol

4.5 sounds potentially interesting, but one drawback that I just found out is that it can't connect with Tama-Go. =/

The only 5.5 I can find on Amazon by searching "Tamagotchi Celebrity" is this one.

Are they really all up in that price range?

I found that page the other day but I'm not entirely sure which version I'm supposed to choose on the bottom for Tama-Go. When I click on Version 6, I get the same problem I do with the normal Tamatown. =/
