Varjak Paw and its sequel, The Outlaw Varjak Paw, are novels about a cat who learns special powers. The books are kinda creepy but I like them (except for the hideous illustrations. UGH!) Have you heard of them?

I've read these - they're great - and I love the illustrations in the book!
(... because it's not about cute, cuddly kitties; it's about how life can be tough and dangerous and threatening - so the pics add to the atmosphere / complement the story)

Oh my gosh! I remember I won that book from a school fair or something like 4 years ago, but never got around to reading it!

Wow, I think I'm actually gonna read it now after I'm done The Lightning Thief xD
