I don't know if this is the right section, but....

I acquired 2 starling chicks on Saturday, and today they're 12-14 days old. They've imprinted on me quite a bit and they love me to bits xD

Aww raising animals from a baby is always fun my dog had puppies a while back. I loved the experience. They are some good looking birds. The other one is funny xDDD

Yup....I've never raised an animal from babyhood (unless you count SeaMonkeys!!), I'm enjoying every step of the way now!

And yup, they're gonna be gorgeous when they're all grown up. Once their glossy feathers are in they will be showstoppers!~

I agree that the 2nd one is quite....entertaining?? Hehe not for me! Right before I took the video both of them pooped on me!!

 
Hahaha! lol no I raised puppies twice the same dog somehow managed to have puppies twice. I felt so horrible it was all my fault she had them in the first place, as I brought the male dog in. so I got rid of him after that and I personally picked who to give the puppies too. I hope you enjoy your role as a birdy care taker. I did mine. At the time it sucked though. Especially when one of them cut his eye and had to be taken to the doctor. I had to stay up all night three nights straight, and apply droplets to his eye every hour! Not fun. He would squirm and make it an impossible task. Just hold out you will look back on the expierence fondly in the future... and once you get rid of them you will miss them.

Awwww....you sound like an excellent caretaker :D The only way I have to get rid of my birds is if my mom just doesn't LIKE them. They poop a lot, and my mom thinks that THAT is what smells. It's really their food that smells (hard-boiled egg and cat food are included in their diet).....But we seem to have one extremely dominant bird, who is constantly begging, chirping, and pecking at me (they're supposed to go through that stage at 6 weeks old....not 2)....the other one is just a little sweetheart. Anyway, Jack (or Jackie) is the dominant one, the calmer one is Jill (or Julian)

That is awesome. Yeah birds are a little different than dogs, it is acceptable to have more than two birds. That is great though. I like Jack he is funny lol... Maybe not for you xD.

Yup. I agree completely! You can have 20 birds in an aviary but you will get strange responses when you tell someone you have 20 dogs....if you do, I wish you good luck!!! lol

Today I was sitting with the birds again. I was reading a book on the floor while the birds were on my lap....I had them on a cloth because when they poop it's messy! I covered them up halfway so it would be warm like a nest, and Jack was sitting on top of Jill, complaining as usual. I started scratching his head, and he shut up! MIRACLE. He kept moving around as if to say "scratch me here" and he eventually fell asleep. Jill doesn't like head-scratchies too much but she enjoys them anyway.

I'm gonna spoil these birds sooo bad....

 
Lol that is great I remember with the dogs they would walk to the doggy gate and like stand up when they wanted our attention. I would get them to shut up by smacking a broom on the gate and the noise scared them off. It's funny now whenever the one puppy we kept sees a broom she runs LOL! Great you don't have to use a broom Haha Just kidding!

 
Aw, cute little birdies! I used to find baby birdies on the ground that must have fallen out of their nests... And we fed them and stuff... And they died. <_<

Awwwh :( I've only found one bird on the ground before this, and back then I was 5 so I picked it up with a spoon and carried it around then found its nest and returned it into it xD

But these babies are doing well....they're fully feathered and flying and singing and generally being annoying ;D

But I can't keep them because my mom is like "I was expecting to get a canary, or some finches....but not STARLINGS! It's mean to keep them in a cage, they need to fly, they need more space, they can't poop in our house, etc"

So I'm on the lookout for possible new parents.

 
Whatever you do...DON'T release them. You did an excellent job raising them, but at their level of imprinting, they will not survive easily. I have raised many baby birds. including 12 Starlings. You must find them a home with someone knowledgeable or a wildlife center. Starlings are difficult to manage, they are stinky(food), messy, extremely intelligent, aggressive and hyperactive birds who need their energy managed by their handler. I absolutely love working with mine, but they are definitely not cute little things who are happy to sit inside their cages and sing. :/
