Why are v1 and v3 more compatible than v2 and v3?

I have 4 tamagotchis; one v1, two v2's, and one v3. When either of the v2's visit the v3, they show up as another character (Nazotchi). It's the same with my newer v2 (when it visits the v1). But the v1 and v3 don't have any problems when they visit, (they don't show up as Nazotchi). Why is this?

Some characters are different on each version. If your V2 is a character exclusive or not on the V3, he/she will be a Nazotchi, because the V3 does not recognize that character. For the V1, their character span is smaller, and the V3 has most, if not all, of the adults/teens on the V1.
