Like many others who have gotten older model tama's I've had issues with the screws...

Things went from bad to worse :p I enlisted the aid of my mom in getting out the difficult screw, which didn't work out so well as can be seen here.

I have researched everything I could, and probably between my mom and I we've tried more things than we should have and now I am tempted to just cut/crack the back, possibly (if I'm lucky) just the area around the screw so that I can still get the back cover off. I am afraid to try anything at this point though for fear of making it worse and I am desperately seeking advice about if there is any hope for fixing it without breaking the back cover or if at this point that is the only way to go since there isn't much left to the screw anymore.

 
Hmm, have you tried lubricating the screw? I've never done this before, but I'd think that might help. Or take it to a jeweler as you said you should have done. Even if you have to resort to taking the back out, your actual Angelgotchi will be OK, just put some tape or something on the back. You'll be able to use it, but it might not be a great "collector's edition." I stripped the tiny interior screws when trying to debug/open up my V3, and it was lopsided and would creak and the screen would go funny when you pressed the C button too hard. Then I went back in and laboriously tightened them up.

Since the back is already cracked, you might not have much to lose. However, I'm not too experienced with this stuff, so please wait for more replies before proceeding.

And no, you have NOT completely killed your Angelgotchi. It'll be perfectly functional once you get the back off. ;)

 
Oh dear... So the screws are rounded off, right? okay, I had that problem with my v2 when I used the wrong screwdriver to open up the back... I went to my dad, because he is an expert with al things great and small xD and he managed to get it off...

"How on earth did you manage to do that?!" I asked with amazement.

He told me,

"You just need to push the screwdriver in hard, and make sure every twist of it helps - so don't let any twist bring any trouble to the screws."

Well, it worked!!

After that I changed the screws and it worked perfectly :)

I'm sure that your angelgotchi isn't broken; after all, it IS just the screws, and the shell. Maybe you should go to a jeweller...

Well I am happy to announce that even though the back plate is a little chewed looking, I was able to get the nasty screw out after tedius digging with my trusty pocket knife around the screw so that I could slide the plate off over it and use pliars to remove the screw completely. Now its got a new screw, new batteries, and finally new baby angel on the screen. :)

 
Happened with my angel too :( it's still working great but the back is hold on with tape and very scratched up.

It bothers me ALOT so next week I'm gonna buy a new angel just for having a "good" one :p

 
I hope to at some point get a 'new' angelgotchi but I am not going to mess with the original screws myself. I've learned my lesson. The next one I get if the screws don't come out easy-peasy is going to a jeweler.

 
Amen! I'm heading to a jeweler in an instant if the screws even start to strip slightly. I've held myself back from opening my Tamagotchi Mame game and a random P1 I purchased because the screws were just too tight.

I'm glad yours looks okay, though! The back plastic plate of mine is completely unusable unless I cut some screws to the right size.. or tape it. I've settled with taping it until screws are cut, and it's not nearly as pretty.

I'd definitely recommend getting a backup if you really, truly adore that Tama. Having a mint condition version of the one I obliterated makes me feel a lot better :)

Totally worth it!

 
One is coming in the mail in like new condition that has been tested and works so I'm very happy about it. I'm sharing it with my sister though since she's the reason I'm able to get it at all and my "damaged" one seems to be working fine even if it isn't as pretty as it was when I first took it out of the packaging.

I've got it running with just one screw though since the one I posted about had to have the plastic dug out around it. Luckily the other one removed itself easily and I was able to get a screw from a glasses repair kit that fits just fine.
