Does anyone here have one of these? I just got a used one and sometimes it sounds like the speaker has static when it beeps. It'll be fine, then sometimes when it makes noise there seems to be some light static behind the beeping. Anyone else have this happen before? Any idea what it could be?

speakers are probably damaged
Well shoot. i wonder if that happened during shipment because the guy said it's never happened before when he had it. Then again he sent it in a sleeve and not a box so who knows how many times it was thrown around or whatever.

I have one of v1 and v2.

If the speakers have something on it... That might be possible. Opening it up and using a cotton swap/q-tip to clean it. Look for little pieces of dust, white stuff or moister.

As long as my batteries last in my D-3... It could be needing a battery change. That might be the simplest thing to do first.

Put new battery in already, but yeah there's gunk on the speaker but it's on the outside because the speaker is glued to the shell I guess? so it gets in through the small hole in the shell. But i see junk in there, how do i remove that?

Ummm... Shaking? Ironic no?

Blow it out and cross your fingers?

If you have something skinny enough to get down there... Try that to push/move the stuff out. Like tooth floss, a skinny needle, a needle threader, skinny wire...

I haven't been inside mine in a while, but mabe those will work...

If i could get a small soft pipe cleaner it might help. Thanks!

Just be careful... The fuzzy can rub off too. Its the lesser of things being inside.

Maybe use felt? You could cut it so it can slide in but still hold it.

Maybe even some wired ribbon? Watch the velvet/soft fuzzy stuff.

True, true. I'll take a look around, see what i can find. Thanks. :3

I managed to get some pictures of the inside of the unit. Starting to think it's just age or something. Or maybe corrosion. Odd that the corrosion is only there, though, not in the battery area.

Here's the contacts to the board: https://imgur.com/6Z7om

And here's the speaker itself: https://imgur.com/mwkVX

Oh well, as long as it works. Plus I've heard of some of the members here replacing speakers in their pets, so I guess worse comes to worse I can find a way to replace it, right?

I think those are fairly simple to fix... Get the white off. (including the bubble-like bumps) Scrape it with a toothpick, flat screwdriver or needle.... Carefully. Get what white you can off. It might take a bit since you need to be careful. Then rub the speaker with a cotton swab/Q-tip or paper towel... Probably get something like a darker grey/green/rusty color off... See where that gets you.

Is that blue wire de-tatched?

Did that, the white is where the board had the green flake off. Cleaned the speaker, too, and nada. It's mostly all glue.

That wire is the pedometer wire and yes it's attached--it doesn't look like it since my LED light was so bright that the white shell just shone too brightly when i took the picture.

Had my dad take a look--he said when you solder, typically they use some sort of wax to prep it, and he said it looks like they used too much and it ran, that's why you see the 'corrosion' on the board.

He told me not to worry about it, little bit of static or not, as long as it works. Maybe I'm just being OCD and I'm babying the thing, lol.

Humm. That makes since. The wax... I am used to people using cut sheets of different variants of metal. (Jewelry) I am not much for solder...

So its sounds like a reverb... or echo? Or scratchy...? Humm....

Best way to explain it is like a scratchy echo. It'll beep normally, and sometimes switch beeps to sound like a beep with a quick staticy echo right behind it where it sounds like a single beep but two-toned. If that made any sense at all. The beep itself has a harsh sound to it, there's no actual white noise static.

I have had a different pet do that... I think mine is many due to age since I put it away. It kinda quit but every once in a while it does... Atleast these have a sound combo to turn it off.

It might be dumb enough to work but... Sound being on, keep scrolling on the distance page until it sounds a bit better. It might vibrate or send enough power into the thing and somehow fix it. That sounds weird but who knows. I have come up with crazier fixes then that...

Actually it seems to do it more often the more I make it beep.

Ah well, I am happy it at least has sound to begin with.
