How do you get a pet on tamagotchi v5?

I've got a pure family (cheerful family) their adults but they don't have a pet I'm on generation 3 I bred

Mumutchi and memetchi as the parents. when i first hatched them I got 2 eggs. Their now adults I've got Sukatchi and memetchi. but do I get a pet?

When I had the pure kuchi family, the pet only appeared sometimes at special animations. It's not really an obtainable character, but it still shows up sometimes. ;)

 
I don't get it. I've been trying to get a pure family and every time I get memetchi Sukatchi and hotteatchi ( sorry for bad spelling) I first bred memetchi with nemutchi then i bred memetchi with mumutchi. Then once the eggs were hatched I looked on the hunger/ happy screen and saw that I had a cheerful family so I thought I would get a pet.
