I was wondering what menus do I select for the ID L and the P to connect them 
any help is much appreciated!

On the connection icon (top right) on your P's, select Tamagotchi iDL. There will be two options:
Play
Propose
This will be similar to your iD L screen, however the P's can only play/propose with the iD L. You cannot send items to each other.
On the connection standby screen, everything else is pretty much the same.
