What to do with items on V2?

Sorry, once again I have a question! I know, it has been a lot lately.

I just bought a pen on my V2 in the shop. Nothing happens when I select it under items though - can I not use it? Is it just there to collect items? I dont understand.

 
As for the items in the V2, not all items can be used by all characters.

 
Oh! Is there a list who can use what?

 
I think that the costume can be used by every adults/elder character, same goes for the love potion. I'm pretty sure the pen can be used by Adult characters +.
