i want to buy a p1. i already have one but it crashed. i would love to open it up and use it but i am worried about it crashing like my old one. i would like to know what you did (or would do) if you bought one of the older tamas for the first time. did you put it away for your collection or did you open it up and rip out the tab? i didn't get to use my old one for a very long time so i want to get more out of using a p1. at the same time i dont want it to break. please help!!

I always use the tamas I bought. I suggest you open the package, open the tama, put away the old batteries, and put new ones in it, and then... enjoy your tama ^^

Why did your first one crash ? Did it fell on the ground  alot ? Batteries leaked?

i think it had something to do with old batteries. when i got it, it was fine but i didn't change the batteries and the whole system stopped working. i opened it up (just to where the batteries are) and when i put it back together it just didn't work. the buttons don't respond, the sound stopped working, the screen wouldn't turn on. no matter what i did it would not work.

if i replaced the old batteries will it stop my new p1 from doing the same thing?

Generally, yes it will stop it happening.

Sometimes electronics just screw up with old age. Keep in mind P1's are nearly 20!

You should ALWAYS replace the batteries before ripping out the tab! When batteries age they can begin to leak, and that leakage can ruin a tama forever. The tab could be the only thing keeping that leakage from touching the tama so make sure you take the batteries out and THEN remove the tab. Whenever you get an older tama NIP you should do this.
