For my first adult I had a Mogumoguchi, and stumbled into the Omiai paati (おみあい パーテイ).

Before I knew what was going on, Mogumoguchi went away and I had an infant baby girl!

Would someone mind shedding some light on what happened, and the feature/function of this party?

 
It's a matchmaker. "Omiai Party" means well, "Dating Party" in a sense.

You will be presented with three characters of the opposite gender, then you will select the character you would like your Tamagotchi to marry.
