I recently won a Tamagotchi iD on ebay.

Once it arrived it was in much worse condition than described. Very sad.

The part where you can put a charm or lanyard had a metal chain that had rusted and really rusted up the plastic.

I tried googling and youtube-ing trying to find how to take it apart but there was none. so I just went for it.

It's surprisingly similar to the normal tamagotchis. As you can see by the photos the screen is the exact piece of plastic used in others.

Took quite a while but I managed to get 95% of the rust off. However the bad corrosion in the battery springs cant be undone.

Rust corrosion in the charm hole:

After: https://s1319.photobucket.com/user/LunarNightLights/media/SffDKj1372108254_zps5b90ec8c.jpg.html

I did pretty well. Only a tiny but left but it's barely noticeable.

The damage:

A pretty bad scratch:

it's sadly even more noticeable when it's on as it distorts the pixels around it.

Pen horrible scratched into the battery open button:

Here are some basic photos of the iD apart:

It's very similar to a normal tamagotchi :)

How it's all connected:

The screen: Identical to the normal connection screen.

I am more than happy to take more photos. If anyone want's too see anything in particular let me know :)

Have a question?? Ask away :)

Is workinf? Are you going to say something tp the seller...?

it works. I did have trouble getting it on a few times due to the corrosion on the battery springs, I have contacted the seller but gotten no reply.

Dang,

I recently won an iD on ebay too, it hasnt arrived yet, but looking at the condition of yours. I'm a bit worried. Did you pay a lot for it?

I'd suggest displex for that scratch. I've used displex with miraculous results on some pretty deep scratches. Keep in mind, usually takes several applications for the deeper scratches.

Ra,

That's certainly disappointing and it makes me wonder how poorly they cared for the pet before you bought it. It's so rusted, scratched, and dirty moreso than just normal wear and tear. I do hope you get some kind of refund or SOMETHING because I'd be terrified that it's pretty much on it's last leg and would break after a short time.

Do you have a picture of the distorted pixels from the scratch? I've scratched my tama's screen before but never bad enough to distort pixel so I'm curious.

Yeah the sellers giving me a full refund, I'll do what I can to get a phooto of the screen on.

Thanks to your recent posts on this, I had the courage to open up my P's when the screen got waterlogged. I mean... given the situation, I would have had to anyway - but your posts here made me feel a lot more confident about it!

All is well now - and I was surprised how much easier it was to remove the inner screws on the P's compared to some of the Connections. Yeesh, those ones can be difficult...

Somehow reminds me of my pink iD. As you can tell your is used but mine was brand new and recently released when I got mine. However I got it from Ebay and paid $105 NZD and when I received it, I guess I was one of the unlucky ones. The gem on front was poorly glued on, only to one side and looked like it was falling off. I still haven't fixed it, not sure what to do. But from your luck uhh... at least you got a full refund in the end. But man that's one unhappy iD.
