I don't know about the newer Tamagotchis (V5 and so on), but I've noticed that for the V4/V4.5 in particular, growth seems to be impacted by skills, as opposed to caretaking.

I was just curious to see, but what is your preferred method of growth? Do you prefer growth being affected by how well you take care of your Tamagotchi (care mistakes), or by what skill your Tamagotchi excels in?

The reason why I bring this up is because I managed to get a Fuwatchi - a "good" character - on my V4, despite not filling up the discipline bar, and taking somewhat lazy (or bad!) care of her. I feel as though it makes discipline almost useless, and allows for laziness. I feel that it limits what kind of Tamagotchi your teen will evolve into, and I think it kind of takes away from the excitement!

What are your thoughts?

Yes the characters you get on the v4, v4.5, and the P's (I feel like I'm missing one if so please tell me someone. Music star perhaps?) depends on what skills for your Tamagotchi are highest. You get skill points from the teacher you choose when your Tamagotchi is a teen.  I think I like it. Its like how you have to get care misses for characters on the ID L. I like how you can control it. But if you don't want to just don't pay attention and maybe you'll get something completely different.

I prefer skills. I don't like having to neglect them in order to get different characters. I'm given to understand that on the P's it's a combination of care misses and skill points that decides what character you get. I can't see myself ever getting any of the lower tier characters because I can't bring myself to neglect them.

I prefer it when growth is impacted by skills, mainly because I'm awful at taking care of Tamas and they usually end up dying with in a day. :P

Both. That's why I chose others :P The P's is the only that has this as for now. I really like it since it's more exciting in a way that you may have took great care of your Tamagotchi but then you have a different skill point so you'll get a different character. And the other way around as well. You may have the right skills but then you had 3 care misses instead of 2 :P

But I wouldn't stay in the gray phase all the time :P I prefer skill points than care misses.

Random, because you never know what character you get. XD Like on Tama-Go, V2, etc.

Hm, interesting perspectives!

I must admit that I'm forever in love with the vintages. I find that the Morino, Angel, and Ocean all have such unique ways to grow. Weight, Angel Power, and even Water Quality... Who knew how much of an impact it could have?

different tamagotchis have different ways of getting characters. Tamagotchis like these are used by skill: v6 music star, v5 familytchi,v4.5, entama, Uratama, and heaps more like that.

tamagotchis like these are used by care misses: ID, ID L, ID L 15 anniversary, TMCG +C, and a little more than those tamagotchis

tamagotchis like these are used for both: tamagotchi P's

That's a guide to caretaking. Some help from tamagotchi growth charts. Tell me if I got something wrong. See you for now!

The ID L isnt random at all! I've raised mine for 5 generations and I got the character I wanted to each time!

The ID L is not random at all. :o It depends on the care misses (you do that by emptying it's hungry or happy hearts and don't check it for 15 minutes. :P)

Hope I helped! ^_^

I prefer a mix, but between the two I like skills more. I personally think it adds more strategy, instead of just keeping a close eye on the screen all the time (or not, if you're going for a neglected character). Not that the latter is bad by any means, but to me it feels black-and-white: Either you have to be incredibly vigilant and quick, or you have to pretend it doesn't exist. I know that isn't true, since there are quite a few middle-of-the-road characters, but it just feels that way to me. Skills make me think more while playing and makes the mini-games more interesting.

I know, people just say it's random; I meant that there's no definite growth chart for it or anything. =D

I agree with robodog; I don't want to neglect my tamagotchis to get certain characters.

I like how the character sets work in v4/v4.5.

There you get a certain character by collecting points, but you get a universal character if you don't care enough for your tama. I like that. :)
