Hiyo... For as long as I remember, I've been dumping used Tamagotchi batteries in the trash. I only recently realized it was bad, and why (it's toxic for the environment). But what am I supposed to do with my dead batteries?! I have a whole pile of them on my desk and I don't know what to do with them. There aren't any battery disposal centers around or whatever. So please give me advice!

^ Nope, there aren't any that I know of, and if there are, they're 10 miles away. This is a stupid town in a stupid state in a stupid country so for now I'm dumping them under my bed. Wise. :p

10 miles is pretty far does your nearest supermarket not take them in? In the UK theres loads of places they will even collect them when the come for your rubbish.

wow, I didn't know that  I just threw out a bunch the other day

maybe you could get a little container to keep them in and just kind of hoard them in the container until you have a chance some day to go to the center

I did just read this though:

"Non-rechargeable (typically "alkaline batteries") still don't have a recycler and general just must be disposed in the trash. If you have large quantities or are a business, talk with your permitted sanitary landfill operator (otherwise known as "sanitation services", the "dump" or "landfill"). Waste batteries should not be burned because of the metals, and they could explode. When burned, some heavy metals such as mercury may vaporize and escape into the air, and cadmium and lead may end up in the ash."

What about a computer place? They will take them in usually. Sorta like the printer ink containes and old cell phones... But a special trash spot for old battery.

If you still have this problem, my school had a special battery disposal bin, you could ask in case they've got one too if you go to school. So do some supermarkets and general tech or electronic appliaces stores.

If you can't find any, maybe people who work in these kind of stores may be able to help you more than us so you might want to ask them as well!

I don't think there are any battery recycling places within like 100 miles of me, since we don't even have plastic recycling (except for a special "recycling weekend" where this organization brings out giant dumpsters and we put our recyclables in there and they take them to a different city...).

There might be something like that for batteries where you live?

If not, it may be worth it to save them up and wait for the distant future, when you can take your batteries somewhere to recycle them.

You shouldn't keep the batteries for a million years because they may start to leak!

Well, I mean, that's what I've been told... but anyways.

I've never thought about how they can be trouble for the environment. I've always just thrown them out.

Yea they can leak if somthing breaks them then they are not good. I always throw mine out to what's the point of having them. they do not work.

They have them in supermarkets here in Wales too, have you checked the ones in Australia? :p

Maybe if you have a fire place or something that will burn stuff, maybe chuck them in there to burn them. Hope this helps :D
