What happened to GigaPets?

Since middle school, I have enjoyed playing GigaPets toys. I got two pocket pets and the Plug n Play GigaPets Explorer that included a third pocket pet. Recently, I have been looking them up wondering why nothing new was coming out and I found that they stopped the production of GigaPets products. I am hearing all over that they just suddenly stopped but I never got why. GigaPets products were very popular yet they closed down for some reason. No matter how many times I look it up, I never knew what exactly happened. GigaPets seemed all the rage n now they're gone?

They probably phased out, just lie Tamagotchis did.
