Long-lasting?

I'm not a new owner, but I do have some questions.

1. How long will my tamagotchi work if I never drop it or do anything to it? Will it last forever as long as I take good care of the case, make sure it doesn't get wet, and replace the battery, etc.?

2. Where are the places I can find older tamagotchis? Ex: v3, v4, v4.5, etc. I only own one (all I've managed to find) and that was a few years ago at Walmart.

I've had one of my Tamagotchis since I was a child.

I didn't take very good care of it, and even opened it up to swap the buttons out with another virtual pet of mine. It still works to this day!

The vintage Tamagotchis that I collect also are all in working condition, despite being ~10 years old. They work great too!

To get the older Tamagotchis, buying them off of eBay is probably your best bet!

as long as you take good care of them and store them properly when you aren't using them then they should last for a very very long time

don't worry, they can handle children so why not you right?

I've dropped mine and they still work. My cat even knocked my iD L off the couch and it still works. They're pretty sturdy, just remember to take the batteries out when you're not using them.

That's a really good point. If you leave the batteries inside, the chemicals from the battery may leak onto the circuit board and damage your Tamagotchi. For example, when I received my Angelgotchi, the batteries had leaked. It would cause my angel to reset periodically, which got quite annoying!

If that happens, I find that rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip tends to do the job, but it's a good proactive measure just to be safe.

In general, connexions are extremely sturdy pieces of tech. They're made out of rock hard plastic and have really thick screens. They are a childrens toy, so they need to be prepared for rough and tumble! Most people seem to wear Tamas around their neck or carry them in pouches. I would avoid putting them in pockets, because they get bumped a lot in pockets with no padding and the fabric can scratch off cute shell designs! They should last a verry long time, even after a lot of drops and bumps.

Colours are something to be more careful with. People have a lot of problems with colours not working properly in extreme temperatures, after minor bumps or drops and lots of other things. Be extremely ultra-careful with colours! Obviously they're also more expensive too, which is even more reason to be careful with them ;b. That all said, my iD Le hit a solid stone floor once and it still works fine, even though iD Les have trouble with the wires to the screen disconnecting after bumps.

eBay, occasionally Amazon, flea markets and trades on Tamatalk or Tamazone.

I have also heard that if you leave the batteries in when not in use, even if they dont explode, that the energy going through the unit will slowly, slowly detoriorate the unit. it supposedly takes decades to happen, but ive heard that. i take my batteries out now just so theres no explosions. ive had a couple explode in my baggie where i keep them... would have made the pet a huge mess! luckily it was just a baggie!

None of the Tamagotchis I bought in stores as soon as they came out function fully now. My first V4 is broken to bits, my V4.5 is glitched, my V5 and V5.5 have lame buttons, and my Music Star's buttons don't work at all. I guess it's because I used them so much and I admit I wasn't the best at keeping my Tamagotchis in good condition...still, I have bought used Tamagotchis that work amazingly.

Thanks everyone! This is super helpful. I've never dropped mine and there are no scratches and I've had it for a good amount of time, at least 5 years. I'll be careful about that battery thing to take them out when I'm not using it. I'm just afraid of the day that it glitchs or stops working. It's the only one I have...I wish I could find them as easily as years ago. When I was younger and got my first and only one, I hadn't yet registered the concept that they might not be around when I got older...
