Hi! So I've seen this tamagotchi on eBay several times going for very high prices so I was wondering why it is so expensive? and also what is the actual game play on it? what do all the icons do? if someone could post a link to a helpful source I would be very grateful ^_^

Thanks! :D

Though not the hardest Tamagotchi to find out there, they are pretty rare since they were only sold in Japan for a short period of time, hence the high prices.  As far as game play goes, there aren't any characters to raise but rather, items you can get to transform the appearance of the character.  Fittingly, Santa Claus is said featured character and the objective of the "game" is to prepare Santa for Christmas by having him go to each house to deliver presents.  He has until December 24 to do so and if he doesn't achieve this, house owner gets mad, Santa gets mad, the whole thing starts over again.  You can read more about them here.  Tama Square (there's a link at the bottom of the page I linked) used to have a wonderful database of translated instructions for some of the more rare Tamagotchis, but the site link sadly does not work anymore.  Erica Griffin's got some great Tamagotchi reviews on her channel, including ones for the Santaclautch.  I would definitely check out the channel.   Gotchiworld is also a great site for information.  It's in German but the Googles can translate.   :)
