I hatched a new tamagotchi on my tamagotchi p and then updated the date to the 3rd of january, and then a strange box appeared in my lounge, I don't know whether its for decoration or if it has some use, so if someone could enlighten me that would be great. I'm assuming its a traditional japanese item perhaps because its near the new years day.

It basically looks like a wooden brown box with a heart on the front and some of those twisted white and red japanese paper hangings on it, on top is a bit of greenery at the sides, two piles of something white, and on the top, what may be an orange??

It's called Kagami Mochi. A traditional japanese new year decoration. 2 mochi and a bitter orange on the top.
