Can not transfer files from PC on to IDL...Freezes?

I want to transfer some content to my IDL (backgrounds, games, ect). I do not own any mobile devices with IR ports, so I just tried the one on my laptop. The tamagothi recognized the computer, however I had to carefully manipulate the position of the tamagotchi for the laptop to find it. After it found it, the IDL's hearts turned blue. I pressed B to retry. When I tried to send a file it said that it had lost the other device. I tried doing this a couple of times, and on more than one occasion my tamagotchi actually froze up on the connection screen and I had to hard reset it. How might I troubleshoot this?

I am not sure if you can send downloads through your computer, I think you might need an infrared USB. I haven't read of anyone using their computer to downloads, sounds quite interesting actually. Do you mind taking a photo of the infrared port on your PC?
