Hey, has anyone seen this pet adventure game in development called "Pakka Pets"?

I've got Tamagotchi on my phone and I love it. This game is kind of like Tamagotchi meets Pet Society and a number of other things, if you guys like dressing up pets, taking care of them, seeing them evolve, decorating their space and taking them on adventures, you might like this. ;)

There is a video on their KickStarter page, check it out:

This looks really cute, and I'll definitely download it when it comes out! I was watching the trailer video, and at 1:09, I saw a "cat" that looked a lot like the character Katrina from the Nintendo 3DS game, Animal Crossing: New Leaf. This is Katrina:

I know it's irrelevant, but I thought that was pretty interesting! :D

Oh my gosh, it TOTALLY does!! I love Animal Crossing, playing New Leaf right now, too!! They might have been inspired by that~ :D

Yeah! I sure hope they don't get in any legal trouble because of it, since ACNL has copyrights and all. Anyway, I'm super excited for the release of this game and I think I'm even going to donate a small amount to the kickstarter! ^_^

I think they'll be fine, it's just a little bit of a look-a-like =P I sure hope they get enough funding to finish this, it'd be sad to not see it go live~ The goodies you get for being a backer seem pretty neat, too. ^_^

I hate how it's just a copy of Tamagotchi IMO. I mean, look at the characters! Rip-offs of Nyatchi, Sebiretchi, Gozarutchi, Mukimukitchi, and a lot of them have "Tamagotchi" style mouths, like Kuchipatchi and stuff. I hope they get into trouble for trying to copy Bandai.

....I honestly wouldn't call them rip offs. Sebiretchi is the most apparent one, and more or less sebiretchi is just a cartoon dinosaur. Also the mouths are a popular style in japanese kawaii things.

Looks interesting!

The last one looks like Ahirukutchi and the second to last one looks like a dead Tamagotchi XD

Still cute but I can't hide the feeling that the character designer was looking at Tamagotchi characters >w<;

That sounds like fun! When is it coming out? And where can I download it?
It looks like if they receive funding from KickStarter (hitting their goal in 2 weeks) then it should come out in the middle of the year.

And it should be available for both iPhones and Androids.

Will it be free? After the incident with Megu ([*]) I'm craving for some quality virtual pet for my phone. I can't really buy paid apps on my iPhone because Apple doesn't accept debit cards and gift cards are not accepted in my country so I would have to buy it on my tablet, and I'm not a fan of playing on it.

Eternal Mametchi Fan, I'm sure no Tamagotchi fans would see this and not think that some of the character designs look like those of Tamagotchi's. The fact that you can name specifically which shows what a true fan you are~

But looking at it on the positive side, like Jhud said, the mouth styles are common in Japan for kawaii character and I would say the simplistic but retro pixel-art/digital watch game style is also one that's a lot more celebrated and popular in Japan and not quite at the same level in North America. Considering how all my coolest Bandai toys are still imported or bought from Asia and Tamagotchi is still huge in Japan and slowly dying here, I doubt Bandai has much of a focus for the NA market (but I'd love it if they do!!!) With that said, I'd much rather this style get popularized here rather than more FarmVille clones, American social/mobile games are all look-a-like. There's soooo much space for the kawaii Japanese styles in mobile apps, and the styles deserve to get very popular~ :ichigotchi:

I am sure that the artist is either a big-time Tamagotchi fan (probably Animal Crossing, too) or the team just has great faith in this style and sees a glorious spot for it in North America. Consider how two talented professionals striving to be independent developers and have chosen to make a game like this for fans like us in NA who would LOVE to see Bandai do it but hasn't. There're only a hand-full of Tamagotchi inspired games out here on mobile, and they don't look all that good, and some of them are really just plain Rip-offs of the gameplay and nothing more. If this was created by some big corporate then I wouldn't back them.,, but it's just two guys who want to make dreams come true. If say... they get the attention of Bandai and get to partner with them, wouldn't that be awesome? Or imagine if Bandai just acknowledges the competition and potential for Tamagotchi to be hugely successful in NA mobile space, they might step up their game and invest more into our market (Yay!!). And it wouldn't have happened if these guys didn't make Pakka Pets. Just my personal opinions but I am really excited to see more Japanese style games created for the rest of the world by people who have faith in them :)

Oops, I posted a duplicate by accident and don't know how to delete it >w<', just editing it now. I'll just add a comment. Tamagotchi should stay in North America forever, they've got to, there're still so many of us!! And I really hope to see Bandai develop L.I.V.E some more~

I'm sure that the creator is an Animal Crossing fan; the frog character looks like one of the peppy/normal frog villagers (forgot the name).

Also, I really doubt that they would get in trouble because of the fortune teller character. Touch Detective has a fortune teller whose name is Katrina and they are very alike (though she is not a panther of course) and I don't hear them getting in trouble for that.

Yah, it will be free according to their KickStarter, and you will probably just be paying to get special items and some premium currency. The shut down of Megu and so many other pet games are due to big companies' decisions (if a game doesn't make it top 3, 10 or whateve for a major game developer, they abandon them), so I'm hoping these guys will stay as a small team who really care about their products even if Pakka Pets becomes very successful. I really hate it when these mega social game companies create something millions of people love and just mercilessly bury them when they aren't making enough $$$. GREE bought MARS (the maker of Megu) and now Megu is gone!! Boooo~~

do we have a release date for this app? it looks so cute! I really hope it comes to us aussies!! :p ^_^

Hey guys! I'm Willem, one of the two guys working on Pakka Pets. I just recently came across this thread and am SUPER happy to hear that you guys are excited about our game!!! I'm defiantly a huge Tamagotchi & Animal Crossing fan. Shades of both games as well as games like Pokemon will be visible in Pakka Pets when we launch. We are doing our best to reference and be inspired by these games without ripping anything off. :)

We're hoping to get the game out sometime between Nov 2014 and Feb 2015 (sorry its so long, but its only us two working on it!) If you guys have any questions about it, I'd love to answer em', although I might be a little slow responding since we're super busy.

Rock on n' keep raising beautiful Tamagotchis!

ooooh! can't wait!

one question though: will in-game currency cost alot? (like the special kind of currency that you need to pay real money for)

So happy your excited!

There will be only one in-game currency, this means that there won't be a purchase-only currency. Any money, or in our case Hearts, that you earn from your pet can be used to buy any in-game decorations items, or even new eggs to hatch Pakkas from. You will be able to purchase currency for real $, but we haven't started tuning it yet. My goal is to tune it to be fun without purchases first, and once I'm happy with that balance, to make purchases feel like an icing on the cake for those who want it.

Hey, um, how did you come up with the name "Pakka Pets"? Did it just come to you when you were playing with Tamagotchis or other things?
