My tamagotchi P's just arrived in the mail!!!!!!!

So, this is my first color tamagotchi, and was wondering if any of you have any tips? I specifically want clarification on the school function and skill points (does school affect skill points like the V4.5???). Also, is there something like a planting feature for the garden???? I went to the park, and got the "eco scoop", does that have anything to do with the garden!?!?
I tried to do some research, but am kind of confused.
