can I pause IDL for longer time by taking batteries out?

I was wondering if that would work. I know it's supposed to save your current state so if you run out of batteries you can re-load it.

So, if I want to pause it for a couple of weeks, could I just take the batteries out? Will I be able to re-start from where I was (without loosing any points/items/characters already had)?

Yes, you can just take out the batteries, and select the LOAD option on the top, but if its the japanese ID L, its the top option as well

 
It's a good idea to take the batteries out if you're not going to use something for a couple of weeks. This is so that it won't use up battery power, potentially corrode, etc.

When you put the batteries in, be sure to choose the TOP OPTION that shows up. This will load all your saved data. The second option will reset the Tamagotchi all over again.
