Is it theoretically possible to use the IR device on this phone to communicate with the iD L to send over the games and other stuff?

Check your phone's documentation to see if the device's IR transmitter supports file transmissions.
Usually modern smartphones equipped with IR are only for universal remote control capabilities and are not capable of transmitting files like the older-generation IR-capable phones.

I figured it wouldn't be that easy... I'll just have to invest in an IrDA unit. x_x
-> I've actually tried the PSP method and STILL no result. it wouldn't even talk to it. oh well... tuesday my IrDA USB item arrives...
