How to mute gigapets?

I just bought two little mermaid giga pets (the yellow one and the shell one). Both beep a lot and I always turn the sound off on my tamagotchis...please tell me there is a way to mute these.

Press mode and I think you press left mute and right to un-mute and mode again to get back to your pet.
