My Problem with the TMGC Friends

My main problem with the TMGC Friends is they didn't even try with the toy itself. The build quality of the Japanese toys are really good, while the friends are so shoddily built it’s laughable. Both units I bought had superficial scratching and warped screens. For a “reboot”, there sure is a lack of new characters and too many things were taken out for this to be a good successor to the tama-go. And don’t even get me started on the promotional stuff…

Is it just me, or does it look like this poor girl was just blinded by some sort of bright light?

It’s not all bad, I mean, the sprites are adorable, but some cute sprites doesn't make up for the lack of customizability, complete absence of items, and a housing made of the cheapest plastic imaginable.

Whew. Just needed to get that off my chest.

 
I was going to buy a blue/silver (USA) at TRU, but finally seeing it in person--nope. Really shoddy workmanship if you ask me.

 
I disagree with the lack of new characters aspect. Every single character aside from Mametchi, Memetchi, Kuchipatchi is new. Yes, it's not new compared to Japan but since when does Bandai America make up entirely new characters? On every single past release, Bandai America borrowed characters from Bandai Japan. I don't see the need to complain about it now.

I really like the promotion, it just doesn't appeal to teenagers and adults because Tamagotchis are meant for little girls. When I see the Tamagotchi Friends promotional girls, I think they look very happy. :) They don't have to have all this fancy effects and a perfect face in order to look nice.

I think the bulid is better than that of Japanese Tamagotchis... :mellow: My 4U faceplate keeps coming off and my P's gets dirt under the front part all the time ;-;

I'm sorry but I just don't like it, and I tried so hard to. I desperately wanted to find enjoyment in this toy, and at first I did. But in less than a week that excitement faded into disappointment as I noticed more and more of the toy's flaws.

Well, all I should say is that I'm glad Bandai hasn't given up on the Tamagotchi fans outside of Japan. We pretty much have a lot of catching up with the franchise since Japan always still have the good stuff...Even though it's basically all shoddy an all. Still, at least they tried to add features to it. But I could enjoy the collection of it. The figurines and all.

 
I don't think they are so bad... They are not as good nor complete as the japanese ones but I enjoyed my Friends. I'm still running it, in fact. As I said, it's not nearly as complete as the japanese releases, but it's pretty fun still. The shell is not that bad either. Mine hasn't scratched a bit and I love the fact that the back is flat so you can easily keep it in a table without it scratching. I think they are a fairly good product for their price, honestly. And the figurines from the Friends series are pretty cute and well-made, aswell as cheap too.

That's the key word, "complete". To me, the TMGC Friends seem incomplete.

 
It feels complete to me. Just not so full of features as most of the modern Japanese releases. Feels more like an old Tama to me.
