Hello! I happened to be in Toys R Us last week and saw that they had Tamagotchi! To be honest, I didn't realize Bandai was still making them, so I picked one up for nostalgia's sake.

Unfortunately, it seems kind of....too easy?!

I didn't think I was taking particularly good care of the poor guy...he wound up sitting in his own poop for a few hours while I was at work and even went to bed with a few empty hearts. But he evolved into one of the best adults anyway?!

So...what's a good Tama to get that poses a little more of a challenge? I don't care what language it's in! Preferably non-color, since I'm mostly on a nostalgia kick, but if you guys can convince me the iD L or P's are all they're cracked up to be I might go for one, haha!

The only other ones I own are Mesu+Osu. c:

Get a Morino or Umino if you want a challenge.

Modern Tamagotchis are made for children after all, so that's why they are overall simpler and easier :)

Anyway, I think that the Music Star is quite challenging. You need to play a lot of games and keep the Tamagotchi character's stress down, and it's difficult to make money unless your Tamagotchi becomes a successful musician. It has lots of cool features such concerts, making bands, etc. It's a bit complex and can be too demanding at times but it's still really fun and a good challenge.

I think those two are a little too crazy for me. I'm mostly looking for something that won't evolve into the best character even when it's neglected.

I agree with Pauly, you should go with a V2-V3, those are the best for you :D or a P1-P2 if you want it to be a bit more challenging.

I would also recomend the Tama-Go, is easier than the previous ones though, but I find it nice because is easy to get BOTH good and bad care characters xD

Also for nostalgia purposes the 15Th anniversary iD L is also nice, and is quite challenging to get characters you want because there are a lot of characters, but if you are not into color ones you will prefer the others more ^_^

You're best choice is the older modern tamagotchis. Particularly V2, V3, or V6. They are easy to play but not easy to raise when you're aiming for a particular character. I've only got the perfect care characters on the V2/V3 less than a handful of times because they can be so finicky. On the V6, I had an easier time but the stress feature is daunting for a busy person.

Another thing to mention is that the Tamagotchi Friends growth can be random if you do not reach any of the specific requirements, so that could be why you got a good care character.

If you're not interested in challenging features like the V6, I think V3 is good in terms of difficulty of getting characters. It also has really fun games. :)

Thank you everyone! I've been looking into V2s and V3s and I found a cute V2! I think I'll get that one. :> I might try one of the more unique tamas like V6 later on!

Update: Caught a cheap auction for a V2 (good thing I hadn't bought the other one yet)! It should be here by Christmas!

The V6 is fairly cheap right now. There are a couple shells on Amazon for $19.99 (and offering Prime shipping too if you have it).

In my experience, V5 and V5.5 is the scarce and pricey one of the V1-V6 generations.

I can verify PP's post about the v5.5 being the "needle in the hay stack" of the connection series. It took me months to find mine and I haven't seen one since. Good luck in your hunt!
