Is removing batteries in a NIB tamagotchi worth opening it to prevent corrosion? Has anyone had issues with the tamagotchi screws? I so far have had 2 tamagotchis i have not been able to open the battery plate because the screws were too tight...one was was NIB! Would anyone know how I can get stripped screws out? Should I take it to a jeweler?It is in a generation one tamagotchi. Also, I don't have a big collection at all, but i'm looking to add, what are (in your opinions) the best tamagotchis to collect that you can foresee attaining value in the future? side note..i have separate tamagotchi's i play with and i'm 28. lol i had the gen 1 when i was 10 and its so nostalgic, That's really the only reason I play with it lol I have never played any others and don't really have much desire to. So, the questions are purely for collection purposes.

Removing the screws might mean a few prints on the shell and a couple of nicks on the screws. Corrosion is easy enough to deal with, so I wouldn't worry too much about old batteries.

You have said above that you are collecting Tamagotchis only for the purpose of collecting. Battery corrosion is a true risk, and I've seen many beautiful and very expensive vintages completely destroyed inside due to battery corrosion. However, Tamagotchi collectors are usually informed about their purchases, and are aware of the risk of corrosion when buying a vintage Tamagotchi. So it isn't a necessity to remove the batteries for the purposes of collection & re-sale later on. Personally, I like to remove the batteries in vintages. I know it isn't necessary, but I don't want any of my tamagotchis corroding inside

Here's some technical advice. For vintage tamagotchis, a JIS screwdriver is needed (easily available in sets on Amazon), as Philips screwdrivers will strip your vintage tamagotchi screws. With a JIS screwdriver, removing screws on new tamagotchis is much easier than with a standard Philips screwdriver. You mentioned stripped screws - take it to a jeweler you trust and ask if they are able to remove it, as quite often they can. I cannot stress the 'jeweler you trust' part enough; some jewelers will think your tamagotchi is 'just a toy' and butcher it, so it is worth explaining that the toy means a lot to you. Otherwise, screw extractor sets can also be bought at hardware stores/Amazon, and are generally successful although usually leave small nicks in the plastic surrounding the stripped screw.
