Hunched over my iPad texting up my next novel
For years, war had been brewing between TamaTown and DreamTown. The residents of TamaTown thought DreamTown was nothing but a village of bug-eyed humanoids. The people of DreamTown thought TamaTown was just a menagerie of freaky monsters.

The king of TamaTown didn't like all the fighting, so he tried to calm down his subjects. But most of the time, they wouldn't listen to him. Plus, he was too busy trying to teach his son, Romeo, the ways of a prince.

"Romeo," he said one day, "a prince must be a great leader, like his father."

Romeo, a Mametchi, rolled his eyes and slumped down into his chair, knowing he would have to endure one of his boring lectures. He copied his mouth movements.

"ROMEO!" shouted the king. "It's time that I be honest with you." He sighed. "You are lazy, a slob, and you take no responsibility!"

He looked at him. "Well what do you want me to do about it?"

He handed him a woven basket. "Tackle the laziness first. Go into the woods and pick exactly 40 apples. No more no less."

Romeo gasped. "40 apples?!"

"Yes."

"Fine." He took the basket, got up, and headed to the forest.

Now, king of DreamTown didn't like fighting either, so he tried to control his village. But he could barely control his own daughter.

"Papa!" said Jewel, a Himespetchi. "Why won't you let me go into the forest and hunt deer?"

"Because it's too dangerous," he answered.

"But I am the best hunter in all the land."

"A princess is not a hunter," he replied.

"But--"

"No buts. It is improper for a princess to be a hunter. And you'll get hurt!"

"No I won't. Please, let me go and I will come back with the biggest deer you could ever imagine."

The king sighed. "Very well. But be very careful."

"I will!" she said as she skipped out the castle doors, bow and arrow in tow.

* * *

The forest was a place of mystery, filled with all kinds of creatures and hiding places. It also was on the border of DreamTown and TamaTown. That's how the residents of each kingdom would go to the other and attack.

* * *

"This is so stupid," whined Romeo. He picked up a pristine apple and but into it. "You're lazy. You're sloppy. Blah blah blah."

CRACK!

He jumped. He looked down and saw a tree branch laying in th grass. "Oh phew." He picked it up and threw it aside.

Jewel clung to the tree trunk and exhaled loudly.

Romeo's eyes grew wide. He whipped his head around. What he saw made him drop his basket.

Jewel gasped. He had seen her! She lost her grip and fell face forward to the ground. "Ugh," she graoned as she got up.

"HUMAN!!!" exclaimed Romeo.

Once she was back on her feet, Jewel yelled, "MONSTER!!!" She took her bow and quickly grabbed an arrow from her quiver.

Romeo raised up his hands in defense. "Whoa whoa whoa! I'm not a monster!"

Jewel still had the arrow pointed straight at him. "Well I'm not a human either."

He came closer and stared at her. "Wait a minute...aren't you--"

"The king's daughter? Yes I am. And you must be the other king's son."

"Um...yes..."

"Well then." She pulled back her bow's string.

"Whoa whoa whoa! Hang on! Please. Just spare me. I don't like this fighting. And neither does my father."

She looked at him skeptically.

"What are you doing here anyway?"

"I was hunting deer when I saw you. What were YOU doing here?"

"I was picking apples."

"Mphmf. What is a prince doing picking apples?"

"What is a princess doing hunting?"

She narrowed his eyes and looked into his. They were big and the color of midnight. At first she thought he was putting on a puppy-dog face. But he wasn't.

Romeo looked at Jewel. Her eyes seemed to sparkle like a waterfall. A calm, blue waterfall.

"Quit staring at me."

He sighed. "Please, I'm telling the truth." He looked at her again. "And I have a feeling you don't like the fighting either."

Jewel lowered her bow. "You're right. I don't."

He gave her a small smile.

And she returned it.

They spent the rest of their time in the woods, talking, and when it became late, they took each other to meet their fathers. Soon enough, both of the kingdoms heard about it. And when they did, they decided that just because you look different or have different opinions, doesn't mean you can't be friends.

So from then on, the two kingdoms lived in harmony and peace.

The End.
