Chapter 1: The Fire Gate

It was almost sunset. A coyote pup popped its head out of the den. 'Mama,' squeaked the pup. 'Can I go play with Moonlight outside?'

'Yes, but stay near the den and don't go further than the Fire Gate.' reminded the mother.

'Of course I will, Mama!' replied the pup. Moonlight, the pup's sister dashed out of the den.

'Rrr,' exclaimed Moonlight. 'I'm going to get you, Stargeaz!'

'You'll never defeat me!' Stargaez hissed. The siblings tumbled onto one another playfully. Soon they got tired of wrestling and decided to go exploring.

'Ouch!' Moonlight cried in pain. She stubbed her toe on a rock!

'What's wrong, Moonlight?' asked Stargeaz.

'Nothing,' replied Moonlight. 'Hey, where are you going? Mama said not to go further than the Fire Gate!' Sure enough, Stargaez was struggling to get over the Fire Gate, a fallen tree with red moss on it.

'Aren't you curious about what's beyond the Fire Gate? Daddy can do it, Mama can do it, so can we!' shouted Stargaez.

'No!' screamed Moonlight. But she was too late. Stargeaz was already on the other side of the Fire Gate!

Stargaez howled with excitement. Moonlight didn't dare to go across the Fire Gate, otherwise she would be breaking the rules too! Moonlight knew that she couldn't go and fetch her insane brother, so she ran towards the den.

Finally, she arrived at the den. Hylde, their mother was napping with the other pups, Sun Fur and Wind. 'No wonder she didn't hear us!' thought Moonlight. She ran to her mother's side and nudged her. Hylde blinked herself awake.

'Yes, Moonlight,' yawned Hylde. 'Where's Stargaez?'

'That's the problem, Mum. Stargeaz has gone across the Fire Gate!' cried Moonlight.

Chapter 2: Away from the den.

Stargeaz leaped with pride and happiness outside. He ran around the rocky forest, not caring weather a tree, moose or anything in his way. Soon he came far from the den, but he did not know it. Stargeaz yawned. He found a wet patch of moss and let his eyes close...

When he woke up it was already moonrise. Stargeaz yawned several times. Finally he got hold of himself. Hylde, Moonlight, Wind and Sun Fur had not found him yet. Stargeaz felt hungry. He knew he could not hunt, so he decided to look for some carrion.

Even after long hours of searching, he could not find any carrion. Hungry and tired, he decided to look for another coyote den and hopefully the coyotes that live there would give him some food.

Eventually, Stargaez found a den. He could hear some squeals from the den. As he approached the den, a male coyote came out of it.

'What are you doing here?' questioned the coyote.

'Well,' stuttered Stargaez. 'I got lost and I was wondering if you would give me any fo-'

'We don't feed any pups from outside. Scram!' growled the coyote.

Sobbing, Stargaez ran away. He was starting to wish he hadn't climbed over the Fire Gate and explored.

Chapter 3: The Danger Of Humans

The poor coyote pup ran as fast as he could. He didn't know where the den lied. All he knew was to run. Run wherever his instincts lead him. Stargeaz looked behind himself to see if the ferocious male coyote was following him.

Suddenly Stargaez bumped into a truck. He gasped. 'A human thing!' Stargaez thought in horror.

He saw something coming out of the truck. It was a human! The man looked around and spotted the terrified coyote pup. He mumbled a few words and reached out to Stoke Stargaez. Stargeaz growled in distress. When the man finally managed to stroke him, Stargaez backed away and started howling. Perhaps Hylde was nearby and heard Stargeaz's howls.

Hylde, Moonlight, Sun Fur and Wind ran to his side. The pups nudged Stargeaz, trying to comfort him. Meanwhile, Hylde Was circling the man, growling and threatening to attack. The man just laughed and grabbed his tranquilliser gun. The Hylde yelped. She signaled to Wind to lead the others away. Wind (who happens to be a she,) nudged the others away.

Out of the blue, The man shot Hylde!

When the pups saw that, they thought that their mother died trying to save them. They howled in sadness. The man shot them with the tranquilliser gun too, and within a second, Stargaez, Wind, Moonlight and Sun Fur were all unconscious...

Chapter 4: Cages And Meat

Hylde yawned. She got up to her feet. At first she expected to see the rocky den and wet moss under her feet. But instead, she saw bare, metal bars around her.

'Mum, where are we? I want to go home!' wailed Sun Fur.

'Don't worry. Mum is going to find a way out of here.' comforted Hylde. The truth was that she didn't know a way out. The door out of the cage was locked and they were stuck there.

Moonlight ran back and forth the cage, and giving out yips of frustration.

'Moonlight, you know that there's no use tiring yourself up. Goodness knows what will happen to us next!' Hylde said.

'Alright.' Moonlight mumbled.

'Why don't you and Sun Fur help me wake Stargaez and Wind up?' asked Hylde, nudging Wind.

'Yes mum.'Moonlight and Sun Fur replied monotonously.

Soon, Wind and Sun Fur were wide awake. The pups yipped, howled and wailed in distress.

'Enough! Running around in circles isn't going to get us anywhere. Besides, all of your wailing is giving me a headache!' scolded Hylde.

'But were stuck here in this cage forever!' Stargaez howled.

'Stargeaz is right! This is the end of us!' Wind agreed.

'I said enough! Now sit down and don't dare to argue with me!' Hylde shouted. Just then, someone entered the room where the cage was. Sun Fur, Moonlight, Stargaez and Wind all sat down, staring at their mother with wide, innocent eyes. Hylde growled menacingly. The woman spoke gently, and slowly opened the cage. She took some meat out and tried to temp the coyotes to leave the cage without hurting her.

Hylde didn't fall for that trick, however, the pups did. They yelped joyfully, and followed the woman. Hylde tried to call her pups back, but they turned a deaf ear to her cries. She had no choice but to follow them. The minute they left the the room, they found themselves in a zoo enclosure.

Chapter 4: Wolves

As they stepped into the enclosure, they heard a distant growling. But this wasn't a coyote. It was obvious that it was a wolf by the note and harshness of the growl. Suddenly the pups became afraid. They whimpered nevously and looked at their mother for help. Sun Fur, Wind, Stargaez and Moonlights' paws trembled in fear.

Slowly, silently and stealthily the woman left the enclosure, leaving the meat behind. She closed the locked the door and sighed with relief. The wolves came out of their hiding place, snarling and spitting.

'We come in peace,' Hylde said calmly. 'We mean no harm.'

The wolves stopped snarling and started discussing. Soon, a female wolf who was probably one of the alphas stepped forward. 'We won't bother you, but do not expect to be too welcome,' she growled. 'Anyway, we are the Falcon Pack.'

'We understand, but we must set rules so that we wouldn't have to argue over food, must we?' Hylde replied.

'Of course! We'll meet you here by dark.' she said.

Hylde nodded her agreement. The wolves left into their den, leaving scent marks to mark their territory on the way. Hylde nudged her pups reassuringly. They started looking for a den.

First they looked for a place with no scent marks. Stargaez was the one who found a den. The den was just a small jole in the ground, but a fully grown coyote like Hylde cannot fit in. But Hylde soon fixed that.

Hylde told the pups to dig the hole and make it bigger. They dug tirelessly. Finally, the den was big enough for Hylde to get in. They wanted to get in to play and rest, but the lights suddenly ran out. The museum is closed!
