Tamagotchis Aren't So Hot Anymore

I heard that a while ago, everyone had a Tamagotchi... now, no one has one and I can't bump with anyone. Do any other players have this problem? (I mean, I don't want Egg to mate and then die, but I do want to bump with friends)

I do have this problem as well, since kids my age no longer play with Tamagotchis, or maybe they've just already sold them or given them to someone else. oAo I felt kinda lonely when I got my Tamagotchi Friends because bumping seemed like quite an important thing to it, and then I suddenly had no one to bump with. Buying another Tamagotchi wasn't an option either, because Tamagotchi Friends was pricey.

I think its because these Tamagotchi's are new and changed a lot, and no one really likes the new ones. Also Tamagotchi is Japanese so it's more hotter than Japan than anywhere else.

Tamagotchi are still very hot in Japan.

But for example here in Germany the new Tamagotchi (The Tamagotchi Friends for example)

is a girls toy...I just loved it how the Tamagotchi V3 was hot here in Germany. Some Boys and some girls had one so I could connect with them.

Tamagotchis haven't been too popular for a long time (at least where I live). I remember when I was 8 and got my first Tamagotchi and no one knew what it was. When I got more I showed my friends how to use them and they loved them! Unfortunately they still never bought their own tamas.

Personally. I don't think tamas will ever be hot again in the USA. Even with the rumored color release. Smartphones and other devices are what's hot now.

I feel this is the same too for England :c When I was in year 10 I brought mine in, obviously no one else had one or they lost it years before. People thought it was really cool and would play with them at breaks but they wouldn't get their own. The few that did got a type of virtual pet on their smart phones, I guess it's more convenient to have it on there rather than buying a separate thing, plus, to spend £20 on something they know will only be entertaining for a few days is a lot of money :///

Sadly I think this statement is true.

It also doesn't help that all the other Bandais of the world have stayed in the past with their designs. Some of my favorite Tamagotchi are in grey scale but its outdated. The inner parts are very outdated too. What sounds more fun to a child in this modern age? A tamagotchi you can collect jewelry with and text friends? Or one that you can download new stuff onto including new games using modern tech? Japanese Tamagotchi do that, making them very customize-able. I know I love being able to change my games when bored for another. I also like being able to decorate for the holidays with cool backgrounds. Then again they did release iDLE and that never went to far.

Quality was an issue for me with the TamaFriends release. My TF's buttons don't respond very well when pushed. I also think having a living room background with grey scale looks bad.(just looks like a bunch of pixels to me) The taking away of usable items was a bad move too. Taking away the download or reset feature? Why did they do this? Also please don't feel like I don't like grey scale because of TF. If the TF quality was there I would have probably enjoyed it more.

Yes I also have this problem. No one near me has a tamagotchi and if I have mine out they are a little baffled by it. I am an adult however so I expect this. When I recently looked up Tamagotchi to get back into it at first all I found were "There's an ap now!". The ap is much more convienent/cheaper becuase it's one less thing to carry around. (I Love having to bring it around with me, makes it feel more like a pet haha!)

The main reason you will not see Tamagotchi be popular in America is because they are not sold in stores. There are many reasons but this simple thing is what will stop them in the end. If the new ones get released they MAY get popular if PR and advertising goes well. Sadly I do not see this happeneing becuase the new ones are "girl toys" and America is obsesses with taking gender off toys.

The best thing I recomend is trying to convince a close friend to buy one or gift one to them. Unfortunatly tamagotchi don't hold most peoples interest for long so it's hard to find that person who will stay into it with you.

I have that problem but I solve the issue by having two of each version I own. Hince why I have 2 dreamtowns 2 v3's and 2 V2's. I know noone outside of the internet that has a tamagotchi so I would be bad if I only had 1.

Agree with DriftyAlison0, I'd just simply buy 2 of a version for myself. I'm a single child at home, so I'm used to play by myself. I think that's ok but of course it will be so much better if people around me all have a Tama~

What I hope for is a new wave of interest, like how it was at first with the P1 and P2, it faded away after a few years, then came the V1 and it was a huge hit and now that's faded away as well. I just hope the next wave will happen once Bandai releases their new tama they seem to be planning.

All things come and go... I still love Tamagotchis more than videogames and smartphones but unfortunately the rest of society doesn't feel the same. It's a big shame really, but thankfully Tamagotchi is still loved in Japan currently.

While I hope for a comeback, in an age that is so positively saturated with technology, I can understand why a beeping, pixelated pet isn't an enticing concept to most children. A (fake) Tamagotchi was the only electronic thing I owned as a kid, and my interest in collecting Tamagotchis today stems from this nostalgia. While I think Tamagotchi is on its way out, there will always be a community of tama enthusiasts, which I am grateful for ...but yes, it's quite disheartening having to buy two of the same version to have someone to connect to.

Tried Smartphone pets but couldn't bring myself to give a dang about them the way I did my Tamas, Nanos or Gigas. Since they don't exist physically they never stop feeling like particularly crappy videogames. If I can't care about them what's the point? I'll never get why smartphone pets are considered a valid replacement for real Tamas. But until Bandai releases something along the lines of the P's in America, and actually puts some effort into advertising them we the Tama faithful are gonna be stuck on the fringe.
