Did you find the instruction sheet that came with your tamagotchi? It's kinda hidden behind the cardboard background in the plastic package. If you didn't find it, then I will tell you how to do it.

On both tamagotchis (V3 and V4.5), flip them over so you can see the back. There will be a panel with a tiny screw at the bottom. Use a small screwdriver the unscrew the screw, and take the panel off. Insert a CR2032 battery into the little hole. Put the panel back on and screw it close with the screwdriver.
