Background:

It had been ages since I used an actual Tamagotchi- all of mine have long been misplaced, save for an Angelgotch and a Mesutchi purchased on a whim a few years ago from ebay (still need batteries for them). However, I have been using the apps since they were released, as well as the ancient Tamgotchi Monster (Devilgotchi English app) that I came across, so I'm not completely out of practice.

By some luck while browsing Hot Topic, I stumbled upon the last Dream Town device (the polka dot one), and of course snatched it up (using the gift cards I have accumulated). I don't think I had seen any of the toys in stores since the Music Star (and maybe a few of the Tama-go), so I couldn't pass up this opportunity. I didn't read the box/instructions as much as I should of, so I actually thought this was the Tamagotchi Friends that I knew had been released a couple years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is actually the newest version of everyone's favorite virtual pet. Unfortunately, this also means there isn't much information on the web about it. I hope that my log will provide information for those that need it.

I unpacked my new pet as soon as I got home. I was disappointed to find that batteries are no longer included, and thus scoured the kitchen drawers for AAAs (fortunately I found some). The benefit to this is that AAAs are much easier to find in stores, but on the other hand the little egg is much clunkier and harder to fit in my pocket. My guess is that more power is needed for the new features.

My first impression (beyond the batteries) was wow, this seems so much more high-tech than the Connection series that I grew up with. With something like 9 games, a fancy background on screen, and with features I still don't quite understand, this seems like a big step up.

Generation 1:

I hatched my first egg, and ended up with a boy. Notably, I was unable to name him and instead was provided with the actual character name Aokumotchi. (Now that I think about it, I don't think the V5 had naming capabilities either, but I may be mistaken). The general mechanics of the toy are the same as prior versions, except now I have 5 hearts to fill up. Raising this generation was a bit of a blur as I was rather busy that week, as well as trying to figure out the new features (my own fault, as I only skimmed the instructions). As a result, my care was about average to low.

I enjoy the new games; Balloon is the easiest imo, thus the one I default to when I'm trying to earn money. So far I've only played 2 of the Dream School games (which I both enjoy)- the performing one, which reminds me of a Music Star game, and the Beauty one. The Circus and TV option seem to be nothing more than long (but cute) animations, while the Cafe is cute but seems rather pointless since I'm cheap (it's expensive, and besides, the fortune teller on the Dream Town site gives me free food) and from what I've seen so far most of the different foods don't seem to have any effect. Even steak (which I recall as having some effect in prior versions), did not raise extra hearts of either type. There was one food that had an effect, but this was in my second gen.

The only other things available for purchase is jewelry at the shop. Jewelry doesn't seem to do much, and is essentially for collecting purposes (a bit of a let down, imo. I miss the usable items of previous Tamas). Not all pieces are available in the shop which leads me to believe that the remaining ones are probably given out by the fortune teller or obtained from getting certain characters.

As a side note, I love the Dream Town website. It's cute and fun, and I love getting free stuff from the fortune teller ahahaha.

I'm not sure what child or teen character I ended up with, but my adult character was Doyatchi. According to the Tamagotchi wiki,

Doyatchi is obtained by having any male teen attend the Beautician class at Dream School at least three times, thus having the "Beautician" skill.
I married him off as soon as the option appeared (I don't remember to which character), which I believe was 6 years. An egg was layed, and some hours later the parents left and it hatched into a beautiful baby girl.

Generation 2:

Pinkbotchi was now in my care. Things have been much more low-key this week so I have been able to provide top care for her. An hour later, I had Terupotchi, and the next day I had Neotchi (which according to the wiki, is obtained from top care). I enjoyed the performing class game, so I played that exclusively to see who she would evolve into.

Day 2 (or should I say, Year 2), she evolved into Yumemitchi! My guess is that perfect care and the performing trait leads to her. Trumpets and streamers appeared right after (like when you get 'Excellent!' on a game) and I was given the Floral Ring. I soon bought another piece of jewelry, which brought me up 30 pieces. More trumpets and streamers- and an unlocked game! So jewelry isn't completely useless afterall (although, I wonder if I have to obtain all 60 to get the last game). The game unlocked is the cake one, which is cute, and I believe was also on a previous Tama.

On a side note, the Mega Pizza food item (obtained from the fortune teller), filled her hungry hearts by two. I'm not sure if this is because the item is 'mega' or if it has to do with the character.

For some reason, my Tama keeps accidentally getting paused. Unfortunately, she was paused most of the night, as well as a few hours today. I guess there's just not enough room in my pocket, so the buttons get bumped. Thus, she's still at Year 2 (seems a bit early to be an adult, huh). Right now she's sleeping, and I believe her bed time is at 9pm. Not too sure about the wake time, as I've been sleeping in rather late.

Yumetchi seems to be rather lowkey- I left her at home for hours and hearts weren't empty when I returned.

Since she hasn't been doing much, I've been focusing on the Dream Town website and seeing what items I can get from the fortune teller (I've started a list).

I love the DreamTown website too (as well as your log)! I was starting to feel that I was the only one using it!

Hmm.. once when I did 3 tickets, it only gave me sausage... I wonder if it's different for the characters or just completely random.
