Best Colour Tamagotchi?

I've never owned a colour Tamagotchi but recently I've been saving up for one.

Which one should I buy? Which one would last the longest before it gets boring?

Disregard language barriers because I'm learning Japanese (+ partly the reason why I want a colour Tamagotchi is to help improve my Japanese )

It depends on your taste. If you want a simpler tamagotchi, go with the +Color or the iD. If you want something more complex, go for the iDL or the P's. If you want something in between-ish and highly customizable, go for the 4U/4U+.

The +Color and iD are basic ones, the +Color being more basic. The iD has downloads, but is limited compared to the succeeding entries. I suggest you base your choice on the characters as they don't differ much. They're cute and simple but nothing much to do once you get things set.

The iDL and the P's are more complex than the two mentioned earlier. Even without downloads, these two have jam-packed features and have many new characters. As said, downloadables are available for the iDL and the P's via an Infrared device. The P's has a pierce feature that adds more to the built-in content and the downloadable content. It can contain characters or character transformations. If you want something that'll keep you busy for a while, and if you want something that can be kept fresh (through downloadables) then go for either of the two. Like earlier, base your opinion on the characters, but keep in mind the pierce feature the P's has.

The 4U/4U+ is a bit different. It's pretty basic, almost like the +Color, without downloads. But, with downloads (through a compatible NFC device) it can go on par with the P's and the iDL as it is the first to feature downloadable characters (though the P's has fan-made downloadable characters). You can customize it highly, both physical because of the plates, and virtually because of the downloads. You can adjust how complex or basic you want it to be by regulating the downloads. Even without downloads, it's cute and fun.

I, personally, prefer the 4U. I like how simple and customizable it is. The characters and their transformations are what I like the most. Anyway, hope this helped you decide on your choice!

Anyways, I ended up with a P's and an iD.

So let's start with a list:

TMGC+C: The simplicity gives off a nice vibe and it has more original characters, although, looking back at what you said, you may get bored of this one... and it's hard to find a good price...

iD: These ones can get a bit expensive. They're probably my favorite because of the super original, recognizable characters. Some people find them simple and boring, but there is a lot of downloadable content for it.

iD L: Now these are a lot of fun. Tons of things to do. However, the characters give off a more alien vibe, rather than the usual cuddly vibe. I find the characters a bit humanized but I like the majority of them.

P's: This one is like the iD L, except it replaces some things. It has only 5 tamapets (iD L has 10) and you can't garden, instead you go to work. This one really is like the V4/.5

4U: I don't know much about this one... If you don't have a Samsung S5 or Nexus 7 (2nd gen.) then it really isn't all that fun.

4U+: Same thing except the + is definitely more expensive.

I'd start by looking up the versions you're most interested in at https://tamagotchi.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Obviously, it's smart to do some research and watch a couple videos on each version.

Seeing as language isn't a barrier, all you have to do is ask yourself a couple questions:

Do I have an infrared or NFC device? If not, go with one of the devices with infrared, since it's cheaper to buy a irda usb or a cheap palm treo.

Am I willing to pay a ton of money? Reading your first post, it looks like the answer is no, since you're getting one to improve your Japanese. So you can cross out TMGC+C and 4U+ (unless you find a good deal ).

Do I like the more original characters or the newer ones?

Do I like the thought of downloading more content to sort of customize it or having it built-in?

Unfortunately, as I was copying and pasting the links, I noticed the P's and iD L have gone up $10 in price. Weirdly, the TMGC+C has gone down $20-30 in price!

My 4U should arrive this week and I really hope to find a device out of MrBlinky's list that support the 4U app! There are so many custom backgrounds and outfits and it would be a shame if I can't get them!!
