Hello! How are you? ^_^

From reading many reviews & watching unboxings etc I decided the simple Tamagotchis and complex colour ones etc can't be compared.

I recieved V2 as a gift! :)

I ran it for 12yrs and got Zukichi. I was a bit disappointed in myself as I actually found it quite low maintenance and it barely beeped, but I slept in twice and it got sick twice.
It left for it's home planet when I went out for dinner and muted it. I don't like the idea of pausing, so I learned the hard way muting is a bad idea because it's easy to forget to check on it and lose it somewhere under then bed...then BAM you're a terrible Tama parent! :p For me if something needs more care I'll ironically take better care because I will be checking often & won't get as bored/disheartened by nothing happening.

I liked the simple screen & it was nice nostalgia because it was like the one I had as a kid. My only complaint is that 1 mini game is pretty boring & V3 has 8 games so I think out of the simple black & white Tamas that (V3) is probably the best out of the simple ones. (?)

 I reset it today & had perfect care as a baby until it went to sleep, but it woke back up, pooped without beeping & then fell asleep before I could clean it up. If it sleeps with poop will it get sick?

--------------------------------------------

I've put in a bid for a P I did a lot of research and think the Ps sound the most interesting and pretty looking out of the colour Tamas. I think I'll be very happy with it.

I'm going to slowly collect a few, but so far 4.5 (someone recommended 4 to me & it sounds great, but heard it has glitches that were fixed in 4.5), V3, and maybe Music Star & Tama Go have caught my attention. Of course Angel/Devil Gotchi sound great too but they are out of my price range. The P was expensive enough.

My intention is to basically have a couple of simple pet-like ones like the one I have but hopefully more games or a bit more interesting & one colour one that is complex.

So what are your favourites out of these categories?

  • Simple black & white?
  • "complex" black & white?
  • colour?
  • novelty/strange/weird (Mothra, Angelgotchi, Devilgotchi)
I think from reading up it seems like V3 is the best simple B&W one, Music Star & Tama-Go are the best "complex" B&W ones and the Ps are the best colour ones.
Out of the novelty ones I think Devilgotchi or Angelgotchi sound best.

I think the "friends' one and the Familitchi sound the worst in my opinion.

;) Thanks for the advice! :)

Regarding your questions... from what you've said, it sounds like you are running a P1 or P2 rather than the V2. I'm not sure if you are familiar with tama lingo, so I'll introduce it, but ignore me if I'm preaching to the choir. The P1/P2 were the original tamagotchis, small, and without infrared. These, along with many 'novelty' tamagotchis (devil, angel, ocean, morino, mothra, and all others released in the 90's) are the vintage tamagotchis. The Connection series came 5 - 6 years after the vintages, still black and white screened, but able to connect to each other and are Version 1 through Version 6 (V1 - V6). Colours came a few years after the Connections. The Friends and Tama-go don't really fit into any of these categories, but I tend to lump them in with Connections because they are black and white with some sort of connection capability.

I believe that if the P1 or P2 fall asleep with poop, this will count as being non-perfect care, and will affect the character you get :)

So what are your favourites out of these categories?

  • I've rearranged your categories just so it's a bit easier for me to answer :)
Vintage - My favourites are the angel, devilgotchi, and morino (bug-themed, yay!). I like these more than the very first Tamagotchis (the P1 and P2) because I enjoy themed characters. Angelgotchis are quite affordable online, and they are wonderful and quirky and just great!

Connection era - the V2 and V4.5 are my favourites. The V2 is excellent all-round (I like the characters and games - the V2 has 4 games), and the V4.5 offers the "work" feature where your character gets a job, which is a nice extra. I recommend checking out Youtube for reviews on each version you are considering so you can see what games & features each has to offer. The V6 certainly is complex, and high-maintenance, and I wouldn't recommend it unless high-maintenance is on your wishlist.

Colour era - For me, it's a tie between the TMGC+C and the 15th Anniversary iDL (though I haven't tried the brand new M!x yet). The TMGC+C (Plus Colour) has "simple" characters, and is reminiscent of the early Connections in gameplay but with added features like home decorating and destinations. I also like the 15th Anniversary because although it's more complex, it is a throwback to almost all previous releases, and I liked seeing older characters & worlds again. The P's is a great choice too, especially because there is an english patch that can be installed.

I don't like the Friends either, but some do. The familitchi is a bit strange, but I think it's not too bad... From the V3 onwards, the TamaTown website was available online to download special items onto your Tamagotchi, but since TamaTown is no longer running these items can no longer be obtained. The V5 is far from my favourite connection, butwhat saves it for me is that universal codes were discovered, and so unlike the V3, V4, V4.5 and V6, the V5 has no unobtainable items.

Let us know if you have any other questions! Also, the BJD in your photo is just gorgeous. :ichigotchi:

Hello! Thank you that was a very thoughtful reply! :)

I did know a lot of what you said, but yes, I was using the term V1/2 incorrectly. I was a kid in the 90's so in my mind they were Version 1. :) Thank you for explaining.

On ebay people use incorrect terms and the P1 is sometimes used to describe a Japanese version of the vintage originals! How confusing! What does the "P" stand for in the vintage ones?

I have watched many videos and read reviews like you suggested a while ago. It took me a few days to get through all the information out there, it was fascinating. The unboxings are so relaxing too.
My favourite You Tube-Tamagotchi-Explainer-Lady is Atlantic Raven. She has a lot in common with me as far as reactions go! If you (Atlantic Raven) are in this forum-THANK YOU!

That is what led me to wanting the Pierce because there is lots to do, a patch, and high maintenance. I am living with a chronic illness so I'm at home in bed a lot and keep my sanity playing video games, sleeping and doing small things at home when I'm too ill to get out & about.
I love complex things because of that! :)
I also have an old infrared phone so I can put the patch on if I can dig it up! Yay!

Do you know why many reviews were saying they didn't like the 4U? (besides having no English patch) how does it compare to the plus colour ones that you like? All I know is that everyone usually reacts well to the Pierces, but the others were a bit divided. Some people don't like the iDL at all. Is it worth getting if you get the Pierce first? It may be nice to have a colour Tamagotchi with simpler characters.

With the Pierce one thing I think I will miss is that it is more of a friend than a pet. I think it would be nice to have a colour one that was more pet-like too. Which of the colours is more "pet-like"?

I'm sold on the Angelgotchi. You are yet another person who really, really likes it. It is reasonably priced now, the prices change all the time!

How long have you been collecting all these?
