Is The M!x Fun?

I'm wondering what people think about the mixes? Like all of them, Spacy, Melody or Anni. As I might get one for Christmas.

Many seem to really love it, but to me, they're just ok. The concept is cute and I love not having to collect happy stamps, but I got bored after a few generations. You raise a character, marry it off, and repeat. In order to marry, you either have to visit a destination quite a few times to build relationships, or be able to afford a 5000 gotchi point ring, and either way it feels like a grind. The destinations are cute, but not very interactive. Each destination has a shop with themed foods, toys and accessories. Some offer a mini game, but after playing once you are deposited back in your living room, and have to go back to the destination if you wish to play again. What bothers me most is that you need to have at least two m!x units to unlock Mermaid Palace & Gozaru Village, so if you only have one m!x you will permanently be missing 2 destinations.

There's no gardening or seeds to plant, and not very many built-in wallpapers. The mix would definitely offer a more complete experience with access to the stations in Japan. I haven't tried the Anni m!x yet, and though I love the characters on it, it's the same concept of raise, marry, rinse and repeat. If you're interested in raising weird and wonderful characters then I absolutely recommend the mix. The mix is also nice because the faceplate insert can be changed with a bit of tinkering and personalised on the cheap.

In my opinion they are a bit better than "just okay", but I do have to agree with most of the other issues. It can all feel a bit underwhelming, especially with only one m!x and the lack of access to m!x Stations. Also I personally liked collecting clovers and such. I liked getting to actually know my tama honestly. I feel like you cannot really get to do that on the m!x. Personalities do not merge, unfortunately. The child either adopts the personality of one parent or the other, and as a result they feel kind of shallow. I suppose it goes hand-in-hand with the simplified care, though.

In my opinion, I think it is one of the best units created so far. My favorite is the P's since it has so much added content with the pierces and can be converted to English. That being said, the mix is unique in that when you marry two characters, the resulting offspring, instead of hatching into traditional characters, comes out completely different than anything you've seen. It takes a little from each parent and a new tama character emerges every time. Something I have ALWAYS wanted to happen. As the above poster mentioned, this version doesn't have the puzzle pieces or stamps to collect like in other versions, BUT each character DOES have likes and dislikes that are all different. Certain food, toys, clothing, accessories etc all can be favored or disliked by the character resulting in the happy meter dropping or increasing. Plus with each favorite item is a special animation that only happens with that character. I purchased one when they were released, a second shortly after to be able to obtain the other locations by connecting, and I am ordering an Anniversary version today to complete my collection. I have been playing for a while and still have yet to discover everything as there is a lot more to this unit than previous models. Overall, I truly like this version and think it has a lot to offer.

It's a lot easier to take care of than other models; the focus here is more on m!xing, creating new characters. The Melody and Spacy versions bring plenty of fun inheritable traits to the m!x. The m!x in general has a bunch of cute dialogue and games to play. The 20th Anniversary release has homages to past releases (red-themed Makkakka Town for the Kietai Akai, and blue-themed Uratamatown for the Uratama) as well as royal characters to m!x with if you like them

Imho is one of the best tamagotchi ever made because it's easy to take care and you can create always new characters.

But keep in mind that you have to buy 2 units if you want to unlock all the destinations so basically you have to pay 2 times for the complete game...
